F.D.R. Farm class trip by Zoë
My class went to the F.D.R. farm property to learn more about salamanders and trees. I learned how to measure trees, cut them with a two person saw, and what tools should be used to measure them. I learned that salamanders are just like the the trout I raised last year. They had to be in wet, calm places and they don’t live in salt water. I also learned that Redbacks are just as squirmy. The only difference this year was that I used a glove to pick them up. The field trip was extremely fun and I had lots of fun. The only bad thing about it was that the mosquitoes wouldn’t stop biting me! Thanks to Suzanne and Cathy I learned more about trees and salamanders.

A number of years ago I discovered a salamander in our garage where I used to live in Bothell, WA. The poor thing was all dusty & dried out, so I took it and put it next to the stream that ran next to our neighbors property. I also (twice) mowed over a tree frog in the grass on the west side of my house in Bellevue, WA this past summer. Fortunately, the mower blades are high enough that it went right over the frog both times and didn’t harm it. I was able to catch it and put it in the damp bushes next to the lawn. I don’t know if it was the same frog both times or not.
