Book Talk by Stella

Many kids think that they are “special” and could be the new Einstein, of course there is a test to prove it. Only four kids can pass and they will be the new geniuses! The book, Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Steward is about the four kids who pass the test: Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance.

They are regular kids who don’t know anything about each other and never met each other. After all the other kids had left because they didn’t pass. Mr. Benedict, the inventor of the test, tells them that they are new spies. Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance end up going to a unusual school because Mr.Benedict says that messages are being sent out to the whole world that hypnotize kids into being slaves. The person who is doing this is a man named Mr. Curtin who works at the school.

These students have to find out, without exposing themselves, why he is doing this, how he is doing this, and, when will he stop doing this. They end up depending on each others lives to make this work… But how do they find out all the questions? Well, in the school some of the best students get to be messengers, and once they become one they hypnotize them and make them spread the words that hypnotize the other kids all around the world. So if Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance get to be messengers they can find out all the secrets without being hypnotized. How do they do this? I’ll leave that to you…
