Activity #1

A food that the United States is famous for is it’s Buffalo wings. These (surprisingly) un-breaded spicy or mild delights are made from a portion of a chicken’s wing which is deep fried and coated with Cayenne pepper hot sauce and a little butter. These are often served with celery and bleu cheese.

Buffalo wings were first invented by Teressa Bellissimo (who owned a bar with her husband Frank). “Upon the unannounced, late-night arrival of their son, Dominic, with several of his friends from college, Teressa needed a fast and easy snack to present to her guests. It was then that she came up with the idea of deep frying chicken wings (normally thrown away or reserved for stock) and tossing them in cayenne hot sauce.”  Lots of stories like those have circulated around the world and it’s hard to know which story is true. But that doesn’t matter. What does matter is that those wings taste good!

  1. G’day Isaac,
I have never tried buffalo wings – I wonder how they got that name instead of chicken wings?

We don’t have them here in Australia or at least I have not seen them here.

  2. I love buffalo wings! I like dipping them in blue cheese, what do you like dipping your buffalo wings in? The story that you researched was very interesting. If you were Teressa Bellissimo, what sauce would have you chosen?

  3. Buffalo wings are so good. Here in San Diego CA, a popular buffalo wing restaurant is called Buffalo Wild Wings. Have you ever been there because it is a amazing place.

  4. Hello Isaac!
I really enjoyed your post, like mine, on chicken wings! I did not know how they first became. It’s awesome that you live near Buffalo and gives you a chance to visit the bar. I live in British Columbia west coast province of Canada, so don’t have the greatest chance of going there anytime soon. I do really want to travel to New York one day and visit the bar. Have you ever been to Canada?
    Thanks for the Comment!
