For my Blogging challenge # 7 I am going to write about the Adirondack Mountains. The reason I want to write about them is because my cousins live there. I have loved going there since I was young. There is this one cliff called Moose Rock where you can jump off into the water and the rocks provide a way back up! It is a beautiful place with all of its green trees and glimmering lakes.

Did you know that the Adirondack Mountains are more than 5,000,000 years old! They also span over six million acres in Northern New York. The Adirondacks are larger than Vermont’s whole state! They have more than 2,000 hiking trails, more than 3,000 lakes and 1,200 miles of river. Believe it or not the Adirondacks were created by a glacier! Some of the ponds you now see while hiking began as a kettle hole*. The Adirondacks are not like the Rockies or the Appalachians. The reason it is not like them is because the Appalachians and the Rockies are both in a straight (ish) line. The Adirondacks have a 160 mile wide dome that has more than 100 peaks.

Oh and if you were wondering what a Kettle hole Is I will tell you. A Kettle hole is created by a chunk of ice falling from a glacier and lodging itself in the ground. The ice block then gets covered by sand or gravel it then melts and creates a depression (dent) in the ground. Which is a Kettle Hole after the kettle hole extends past the water table the water spurts up and creates a pond.

If you have ever visited or know someone who lives in the Adirondacks please tell me down below in the comment section until then Happy Blogging.
