Story

I zoom down the mountain at top speed. I race around the bend and I rush past a tree, barley avoiding a head on collision. Up ahead is a ski school group. I see the group of 4 year old’s falling and getting up. I decide to take  a detour down a black trail. It’s name is Winnisook. It is a little icy but I make it down okay. At the bottom of Winnisook is the freestyle terrain park. I race into it and go off a jump. I try the rainbow board and fall down. But I quickly get up and race to the lift. The person operating the lift checks my pass and I get on the lift to do it again.

While I go up the lift I see my sister skiing with my brother and his friend. Skiing with them is my mom’s old friend A.J. I look at all the trails i went down before. They don’t look steep but when I look down it from the top it looks so much steeper. I almost forget raise the restraint bar. I ski off the lift and skate over to Onondoga which is a blue trail and from there I can get to a trail called horse shoe pass.

“Prepare for take off,” blared the speaker system. I couldn’t believe it, we were going to be the first people on the moon. I looked over at Brian and saw him closing his eyes so tight that his face was as white as a sheet. The speaker crackled to life again, ”10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Lift off.” There was massive crushing sensation in my back and in the next ten seconds, I blacked out.

I woke up one hour later to hear the radio calling, “Earth to Moon Rocket, repeat, Earth to Moon Rocket.” I got up and walked over. “Moon rocket to earth this is Connor,” I responded. I heard a shuffling noise next to me and saw Brian wake up. “Moon Rocket to earth Brian is okay and we have survived lift off.”

A few minutes later the radio crackled again. “Earth to Moon Rocket you are 9.5 miles off course, repeat you are 9.5 miles off course, correct coordinates immediately.” The rest of the trip went just like that. With messages being transmitted back and forth. Finally, eight hours later we prepared for landing.

Landing was the same as take off except in reverse. The countdown, the massive crushing sensation and finally blacking out. I came to about an hour later and quickly put on a space suit. I lowered the ladder and for the first time in history a man had walked on the moon. I went to explore around and tried jumping. I could jump 20 feet in the air so I tried that out for a while. While I was jumping I noticed a cave about 500 meters north. I ran-hopped over to the cave and found out it was filled with gold. I ran back to the rocket and reported my discoveries.

We left the moon two days later. The scariest part was landing on earth again. To do that we had to fall in the ocean like a meteor. When Brian and I go back to land there was a huge crowed waiting for us. It was one of the best moments of my life.

I opened the door and braced myself for the onslaught of arrows that were coming. I raised my shield and charged through the door. Almost immediately I was on the battlefield smashing my way through the swarm of fighting people with my shield. I reached the enemy’s stronghold and sliced the lock with my broadsword. I ran up the stairs and climbed to the roof. Across the roof I saw what I was looking for. I ran over to the chest and lifted up the lid. There were jewels of unimaginable worth and then, the knife hit my back.By Aidan

Family post

Hi my name is Aidan and I am going to talk about my family in this post. I have two siblings; my sister little Elizabeth and my little brother Owin. MY sister is 7 and my little brother is 4.  My mom’s name is Stacey and my dad’s name is Colin. I have a grandma named Blanca, one named Gerry and a grandfather named Thomas.

My sister Elizabeth plays the ukulele and is going to start the piano. She loves to dance and ride horses. Also she loves to ski. She’s been dancing for 3 years and has been horse back riding for 3 years. She has been skiing for 3 years and is also a very good swimmer. She has been swimming for 3 years.

My little brother Owin wants to play the tuba and has been saying that for the past two year.  None of the people in my family have any idea where he learned about the tuba. Something I’m very excited about is that Owin is going to start skiing this year. Last year he tried skiing on our drive way and didn’t fall down once.

Air Pollution
One type of pollution is air pollution. First of all why should you care about air pollution. You should care about it because you need air to breath. The average person breaths 3000 gallons of air in one day. But breathing polluted air can make you sick or even kill you. It also damages crops, trees, water and many other things we need daily. Also if you damage plants and crops animals will have nothing to eat and starve and the animals that eat herbivores won’t have anything to eat and then the whole ecosystem goes KAAABBBOOOMMMM.

Think about all the cars, factories, and boats emitting gasses. All those gasses have an effect on the ozone. The thickest part of the ozone is in the stratosphere, which is one of the major atmosphere layers beneath the mesosphere and just above the troposphere. The ozone is 10 to 30 miles above us. The ozone’s purpose is to keep out the harmful U.V rays that the sun emits. But with the ozone decreasing soon there will be tons of U.V rays bombarding everything and everybody. If you get hit with too many U.V rays you may get skin cancer and die.

Some ways peoples can help lessen air pollution is, turn off lights when leaving a room. Drive your car less. Get a house air cleaner. Get solar panels to power your house, or even buy a electric car. If you try some of these ideas you can help reduce air pollution and make the world a cleaner place.Some major air pollutants are, Nitrogen dioxide (no2), Sulfur dioxide (so2), Carbon monoxide (co) and Lead (pb).

No School – By Aidan

This week we had a five day weekend. It was very annoying not to be able to use my computer to get homework done. The fun part about it was that I was able to go sledding a lot and have snowball fights with my friend Brian. We also made a GIGANTIC snow man. I usually love it when the power goes out because we have to be prepared with food and a lot of water. Right before the power went out, I had a huge Halloween Party. It was snowing during most of the party. There was 8 inches of snow in all. At the party there was apple dunking, doughnut eating contests and pinata smashing. When I tried to do apple dunking I got the apple in two seconds. There was a pinata for my sister Elizabeth and her friends and a pinata for my friends and me. When our pinata was smashed we all started wrestling for the candy.

On Sunday, I woke my parents up at 2:00AM because I had a sore throat. It sort of ruined the rest of the three snow days. On Tuesday I went to the doctor and they stuck a swath down my throat. A swath is a giant q tip that doctors stick down your throat to find out if you have strep.  Thank goodness I didn’t have strep.

The next day I was really surprised because we didn’t have school.  So for some of the day I played manhunt and had snowball fights. Most of the day I was inside blowing my nose. That night we went to go trick or treating from 6-8:00pm. I got a ton of candy. My favorite candies are Butterfingers and KitKats. While we were trick or treating I ate about half of the candy I collected.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba

I like this book because it is very descriptive about Wiliam’s childhood and about his father. My favorite part so far is when Wiliam’s father supposedly beats up the policemen and thugs for thirty minutes and then eats a huge plate of food (which is totally exaggerated). I also like the stories that his father tells him at night. Something I found very interesting was when William said that when he and his friends played a game of America VS Vietnam, whoever won the round got to play America the next round because America always won in the movies.

Something I found very surprising is that this happened in the last two and a half decades. I find it surprising because in the book the technology they have seems so old and out of date. The most startling thing about it is that William thinks they are the most expensive amazing things in the world. Compared to them we are multigazzilionaries. Another thing that I found weird is that they always worked on a farm. I think that if William had gotten a better education he could have designed the windmill that he made better and a lot faster. That could have benefited his whole tribe.

After School Activities – Aidan

After School Activities October
One after school activity I like to do is go to soccer practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’ve been playing soccer for five and a half years. I played on the Ridgedfield Lightnings when I was five and six, a town team when I was 7 and 8 and The Wappingers Dragons when I was 9 and 10. I now play on The Poughkeepsie Day school team which I have been on for 2 weeks.  I like to go to soccer practice because soccer is one of my favorite sport. My favorite positions are center forward and center midfield and my favorite soccer team is Spain because my grandmother is from Spain.
Another after school activity I like to do is to work on the fort I have in the back yard. It is around 9 feet in diameter and 6 feet tall. The fort is a bush that leans over like a roof and has sticks attaching it to the ground. I have been working on it for about a total 2 weeks and whenever I can, I invite my friend Brian to my house we work on it.
I also like to read books on my bed upstairs. My favorite authors are, Jack London, J.M. Barrie, Rick Riordan, Matt Myklusch, Justin Somper and, Dail E. Basye.
Jack London wrote White Fang.
J.M Barrie wrote Peter Pan.
Rick Riordan wrote The Percy Jackson Series, The Red Pyramid and The Lost Hero.
Matt Myklusch wrote, The Accidental Hero.
Justin Somper Wrote The Vampirates Series.
Dail, E, Bayse wrote the series of Heck.

F.D.R – by Aidan

F.D.R. Field Trip

On September 27th, we went on a field trip to an F.D.R. white pine tree plantation. While we were there we learned about how to know if a tree is ready to cut down. To find out we needed a tool called a prism. We also learned about salamanders. To study salamanders we were given a row of boards that had been laid out in the forest. Then we looked under them for salamanders. If we found a salamander we measured it, found the species in our salamander book and wrote all our data down.
