SLC By Cam

SLC stands for Student Led Conference. SLC is when the student gets together with the teacher and parents and talk about what the kid has been doing in school so far and how it’s been going. The student leads the conference and the teacher takes a step back for once. The student talks about what his/her weaknesses and strengths as a learner are and also other accomplishments like projects and such. Then, the student has to set two goals for his/herself for the next trimester and one with his/her parents and the teacher.

We prepare for it by making a slideshow with all the categories necessary, The student also has to display examples of work to his/her parents of what he/she has been doing. For instance, If one child said “ One of my strengths is that I’m great at science,” he/she would show the teacher and parents an example of work or put a blue link to a page of work online that makes it clear that the child is great at science.

I think that SLC are a waste of time and I don’t like to attend them. There is this magical thing called a report which tells the parents how well the kid is doing in school without having to go through the trouble of making a Google presentation, rehearsing it and doing it at school. It saves on time and effort.

If I could do any volunteer work. I would choose to volunteer at a foster home. I would volunteer at a foster home because I am good with kids and I like kids a lot too. It would be nice to hang out with them and make them feel at home when they don’t have one of their own. I have had no previous experience in a foster home but my dad’s friends from high school have kids about 3-9 years old and I used to take care of them when they were younger. I really hope I get to work with foster kids when I get older. It would mean a lot to me to help these kids.

Picture Challenge – Caroline- By Cam

I was walking down the cobblestone road with my good friend, Frederik. It was night time and the moon was full. I noticed a small hole that lead down about 15 ft by a tree. Frederik and I walked cautiously over to the peculiar cavity in the earth. We gazed down the hole. Frederik stared down and his eyes widened. His jaw dropped and as I looked down, I did the same.My eyes caught the sharp, black eyes of a very small but cute dinosaur. He had grey wings and a small, pointy, yellow snout. He had pink splotches all over his mostly yellow body. The creatures eyes widened and his wings fluttered at the sight of Frederik. He jumped out of the hole and latched onto Frederik’s neck with his razor sharp fangs.

I screamed in horror as I watched Frederik’s corpse fall into the pit. As soon as the body touched the pit it immediately morphed into another one of the creatures. “ Frederik!” I screamed. I caught one last glimpse of Frederik’s cold body when I felt the sharp teeth of the other beast. As I fell into the pit, I looked back up at the creature and regretted what I had done.

100 Word Challenge by Cam

The Deadly Locker
I opened the door to my locker and was flung into darkness. I scrambled to find the handle but I touched nothing. A light started to flick on and off inside and I could make out a small figure with gleaming eyes and sharp teeth. Before I could name the creature, I felt a blow to my ribs. I yelped in pain. I screamed for help. I felt another blow but this time, I could feel a blade sinking into my flesh. I struggled to stay alive. As I was dying, I could see a small, half human-half wolf being.

BLOGGING CHALLENGE #10- ACTIVITY #2 by Cam

ACTIVITY #2

I wrote a lot of posts, 6 to be exact and most were school based, pretty much all of them. I got about 3 comments overall. One from a teacher, one from a family member and one from a classmate. My scary story got the most comments. I think that was the case because it had a really gripping title. I really enjoyed my Myself post because I think it really expressed me as a person and I thought that I did a good job of that. I don’t know what changing blog themes mean, and I don’t think I did anything like that. I didn’t have any widgets at all. I think I should have added more. I had zero students from overseas, which I didn’t find surprising.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by Cam

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kambwamba
What I enjoy about this book is how William describes his life before he made the windmill. He explained his family, his childhood and everything leading up to the huge moment in his life. I also liked how descriptive and detailed he was in telling his early years. For example, when William’s father was dancing at the concert he took us into his father’s mind and was very detailed in taking us into his own little world when his father was dancing.

However most of the stories were a little exaggerated which made it more interesting. An example was the story about the people taking the Africans slaves and trading them for guns, food and other things. And how William’s father beat up four or more police officers after he was dancing when the music stopped in the concert. If I could rate this book overall so far on a scale from 1 to 10 it would be an 8.

My favorite color is midnight blue because I like the eeriness of the color, plus I also like black and I like blue so if you combine the two you have midnight blue. I also like it because it calms me down. Another reason I like the color is because it is the color of the night sky which is very cool to me. My favorite car is a Porche and I have a picture of a midnight blue Porche. My favorite football team is the NY Giants and their colors are midnight blue and white.

CHALLENGE #8

I interviewed my great grandmother for this blogging challenge. She is 86 years old and lived through WWII and the Great Depression. This story is being told from my great grandmother’s point of view. Please enjoy and I hope you learn something about my family.
My name is Charlotte Jean Bauer Jones. I was born in Los Angeles, California in 1925 on May 19. My mother was a housewife who didn’t drive and my father was a tile setter and he worked in a paint manufacturing company as well. My childhood was dull. We didn’t go anywhere unless we walked. I didn’t have many good friends in my neighborhood. There weren’t a lot of girls my age.For birthday parties, my parents asked my sister Barbara and I if we wanted a party or a present. We couldn’t have both. We had 5 dollars that we could spend for a birthday party. That had to cover everything including the food, decorations and other items. There had to be a theme to the party. These were my mothers rules. We’d give out written invitations. I had pretty fun parties. My sister, Barbara, was 3 years younger than I was. We didn’t really play together as she was a whiner and I couldn’t stand it. We weren’t interested in the same things.

During the Great Depression, we had enough food so my family didn’t starve. However, sometimes toward the end of the week we had just tomato soup for dinner. I wasn’t allowed to walk around the neighborhood because it was unsafe. I could go on the sidewalk but that was the only place I could go. I liked rollerskating, but not with those special shoes, there were attachments and you clamped them onto your shoes. I got married in 1943 to MacDonald Hoyle Jones and my son Ken was born in 1947 and I adopted 2 girls named Rosemary and Gina from Mexico in 1970. I went to the California State University at Los Angeles. I also went to USC for my masters degree. I then became a librarian

During WWII I didn’t fear so much although we had rationing, but we were afraid for all the men overseas. There weren’t many young men on the street. If they were young and male and on the street there was something wrong with them. We called them 4F. Which meant that they weren’t fit enough to join the army. If you had flat feet, you weren’t able to be a foot solider. One of my cousins died in the war. I was very sad. He died on the very last years of the war.  I was especially sad because he was an only child. He was in the Air Force. The thing that I am most proud of as an adult is my career as a librarian, The other thing I’m proud of but isn’t something I did, is having a loving family. I personally would like the blog to know that I love to travel and I’m happy I still can.
