Observation Poem – Cory

Skating with my friends
while looking and my mom’s Mercedes Benz

My friend takes a big fall
because he ran into a wall

Seeing my dog chewing on his bone
on the grass laying in prone

Eating a pizza and a Gatorade in my hand
while wearing Quicksilver, my favorite brand

Watching my brother playing baseball
feeling the ball hit my back
that always happens and feels like a big, big smack!

Picture Challenge – Cory

Once upon a time there was a girl named Abbie and her best friend John. They had been best friends since they were six years old and they are now eleven. Every day they would go to in the woods and work on their tree fort. They would spend hours in the woods every day, right after school.

One day they met a girl at school named Julia. Abbie and John seemed a little scared because they heard that Julia was a big bully. Julia said, “All I want is some new friends. I wont hurt you.” So Julia, Abbie and John started being really good friends and they started to hang out all the time.

Abbie and John realized that it was time to show Julia their tree fort. Julia was amazed how cool it was and really wanted to participate in working on it. One day they were walking to the tree fort and Julia fell into a huge hole in the ground and all you could here was screaming. Abbie and John sat there crying. They knew that they would have to make sure that no one could find out.

Soon they came sprinting inside to tell Jake’s mom that Julia had disappeared. They called 911 immediately. The police researched the woods to track any footsteps or anything to find out where Julia went. It took them weeks to find out until they found THE HOLE!!!!

100 Word Challenge – Cory

I opened the door and there was a huge box of Twinkies on my bed!!! I was so happy I ran over and opened it. I found 1,000 Twinkies in that box. At that moment I felt like crying but I was too concentrated on eating my Twinkies.
Later that night my mom called me down for dinner and asked why I was so happy. I just told her that it was my friend’s birthday so she wouldn’t eat any of my Twinkies. Later, I went back to my room, ate 100 more Twinkies and then fell asleep.

Challenge #10 by Cory

Challenge #10This year I have done many things on my class blog.  I am going to tell you some of the cool stuff I did.  So far i have written 9 blog posts.  Some of them were about field trips, some were for the edublogs challenge and I also wrote one all about myself.  I have had 6 comments on my blogs so far.  They were mostly from teachers, classmates, parents and also people all around the world.  I received 5 comments on my scary story.  I think I had so many on that post because I told many of my friends and family to look at it.  My scary story was also my favorite post because I really enjoy writing scary stories.  I have not changed any blog themes myself but my teacher changes it every once in a while.  My class blog has 12 widgets. They are really cool but I think we have a little too much.  On our blog roll we have 8 overseas classes.

Book Talk by Cory

This book Pop by Gordon Korman is a very interesting book about a teen boy named Marcus who goes to a new school and tries to be the starting quarterback for the football team.  When Marcus thinks that everything is going well at his new school, he meets a boy named Troy who is afraid Marcus will take his spot at starting quarterback so he starts to bully him.  Marcus meets a nice girl named Alyssa who was of course Troy’s ex-girlfriend. He starts to go his local park to practice football. One day Marcus meets an old man named Charlie about 40 years old who likes to play football.  Charlie told Marcus that he loves to play football and starts to teach Marcus how to be a better player.  When the football tryouts come he waits and hopes he makes the team.  Will Marcus make the team? As Marcus has a rough time at school he tries to get through the year. Here is where you can find the book. Link to Pop

Edublogs Activity Week #9

Have you ever played the game Angry Birds?  If you have, then your going go love this. A 12 year old boy named Sam made a real life version of Angry Birds on his family’s farm!!

If you have never played the game Angry Birds it is an app on the Ipad or Ipod.  In this game you are supposed to use a slingshot and shoot wingless birds at egg thieving pigs.  In Sam’s game instead of using real birds he uses painted pumpkins with faces on them.  Sam also replaces a cannon instead of a giant slingshot.  The pumpkins are also two times the size of the egg thieving pigs so it is harder to win the game.  The egg thieving pigs are raised on planks and also old barrels stacked on hay bales.

Thanks to Sam’s dad he built a pumpkin cannon for Halloween in 2010.  When Sam told his dad about this idea he was very interested to help.  So Sam got his whole family and friends over to help assemble this game and within an hour he was ready to shoot his first cannon.  Right when they shot the cannon they knew it was a success.

According to Sam and his parents this was a big success.  Sam is very happy with his invention and is planning more stuff to do.  Maybe he could even make a new game.  Not only was it good for Sam but now his parents are happy that he’s not on his Iphone playing Angry Birds all day but he goes outside, gets fresh air and he gets exercise from setting up the whole game.  I think this article was very interesting.  If you would like to read it and watch the video click Here.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind by Cory

This book is a very interesting biography about William Kamkwamba. It has many intriguing stories and events about William’s life. This book is really good because William has such an interesting life. William made many cool things such as go-karts made out of wire, spit ball gun, toy cars out of beer bottles, and best of all, a windmill.
The windmill helped his town because they didn’t have any electricity and William also didn’t have any education.  One story that William told us was about his dad who fought 20 police men on New Year’s.
William’s life seemed really interesting.  A normal day for him was to go out and build stuff.  In his village they showed movies every Friday night.  One movie that they saw was Terminator.  Everyone thought that the movies were real so they thought that Americans were like superheros.  I loved this book and I think you should read it.

Snow Days – by Cory

Blogging Challenge

This week we had snow days from October 31st to November!!!!!!!!!!!  It seems fun but it wasn’t as fun as it sounds like. I lost power for four and a half days.

In those times I slept, read or looked outside at the snow for hours.  My school had also lost power for five days so we had a five day weekend!!!  When the power went back on I was so happy. The next day I ran through my street yelling that I had power. I played video games and watched TV all day.  Today all my other friends had school except for my friends and me at school because our school’s power was out.

Monday was Halloween. I had a great time with my friend Remy.  We went trick-or-treating and also had a great time ding dong ditching.  Remy was allergic to the candy so he gave me all his candy that he got, so I basically got double the candy.

Last Wednesday many people in the middle school joined in the Geneva conference. In the conference they talked to many CEO’s of companies about what they could do to help make education for kids and even adults all around the world better.

Thanks for reading about our days off and please check out our blog.
