The Metropolitan Museum of Art -By Kristi

Last week, on Thursday the 6th of May, our whole 6th grade class went on a school trip
to the Met. A.K.A. the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At the Met. there was a young lady
named Barbara and she was really nice and knew a lot about the art. I thought
she was a very good leader because she taught me a lot about the museum and the
art inside it. I really liked how we got to look at some of the statues instead
of looking at pictures of them. I learned that if I saw a man who wasn’t wearing
clothing then he was an athlete. To me, I thought it was weird how the men didn’t wear
clothing. After learning about some of the famous people and looking at statues
of them we all were hungry and went for some lunch.

At lunch we went to a little fun place in Central Park, where there were benches that we could sit
on and eat our lunch but some of them were painted so we didn’t sit on those. After we all finished our lunch we went to a really big and fun play ground where we all ran around. At first Alex, Kate and I were being party poopers and didn’t feel like doing anything so we sat on a rock and watched the guys jump off the rocks and hurt themselves. After watching them fall and hurt themselves
we wanted to do the same so Alex went off first but Kate and I were too lazy to jump off so we didn’t. Kate and I had a lot of fun laughing at people fall off rocks and hurt themselves and we couldn’t stop laughing. Finally our teachers told us to get our stuff and get ready to head back to the museum to see more art. Our teachers handed all of us packets that had questions that were
about the museum and the statues.

After we were done with all the questions we went to a shop where they had some crazy
things like pencils, magnets, scarfs and other cool stuff. Some of the kids bought something but some didn’t. I bought some magnets so I could remember what I saw at the museum.

I really enjoyed seeing all of the statues and I hope we go there again because it
was a lot of fun!

Student Led Conference -Kristi

A few weeks ago the middle school kids all had Student Lead Conferences with our home room teachers and our parents. At first I thought it was going to be so easy to say things about me like what I’m good at and what I’m bad at, but when I started talking about myself, I noticed it wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought. I didn’t know what I was good at and what I was bad at really so that didn’t really help me in the conference and it only made it more difficult. I thought it was very pressuring and nerve-racking that my parents were there because I never tell my parents what I do in school or how I’m doing on my work.

I learned that when I really want to do something or get something done I will get myself to do it, but if I’m not focused on something or I don’t want to put all my work into something I wont do it. I also learned that I can easily give up on things very easily but only when I’m frustrated or I’m too impatient. I also learned that if I have things on my mind that I want to do I’ll do them before my homework but I have learned that it doesn’t turn out very well…I learned that at the end I’m the one who hurts myself by not finishing something and then getting in trouble for it.

At the end of my conference I thought it went very well and that I didn’t have a lot of things to work on, but I did notice that I have to work on getting my homework done faster and on the day it’s due. Before we talked to our parents about what we learned in school, we had to write down things that we know that we are good at and we had to find things we were not so good at. We also had to get some work to show what was good and another piece of work that showed that we didn’t do well on it.

Nature’s Class Room Trip -Kristi

Nature’s Class Room Trip
(Dorm)

Our middle school went to Nature’s Class room so the 6, 7 and 8th graders went. We weren’t excited  at first but that changed when we got to the place. When we got off the bus, the dorm didn’t look that big and they told us that we would have roommates. My roommates were Anni, Hayley, Anna Kate and Alex. The girls’ rooms were above the guys. When we were all unpacked we went to eat. After the day was done and we went to bed everyone was ready to go to sleep except…..our room!

That night we all didn’t want to go to sleep. We all knew that we were SO loud and the teachers kept on having to tell us to go to sleep. All the girls fell asleep except Alex, Kate and me.  We weren’t tired so we decided to play truth or dare and we kept on saying that we were going to go to sleep but we never did till it was about 11 or 12 o’clock. When we went to sleep we all were silent. In the middle of the night I got thirsty but I knew I had thrown my water bottle on the ground, so I went down my bed stairs and while I was going down I was careful not to fall. Finally, I got downstairs but I couldn’t see so I slipped on my water bottle and I fell on the floor.  All the girls almost woke up and I was trying not to scream but it was very painful. When I got up the next morning I was so sore.

When all of the girls were up and ready to go, we went downstairs and all the guys were complaining about how loud our rooms were and how they heard a big thump in the middle of the night., I told the guys that it was me falling in the middle of the night. Later that day a lot of kids were complaining about us and so later one of the teachers told us that if tonight we were loud that all of the girls would have to be split into different room so all of us decided that we would go to sleep for real tonight.

That night we all started talking but we didn’t talk for a long time and after we talked a little bit we  went to sleep really fast and got up the next morning and we all looked like we got a goodnight sleep. When we heard the bad news that we had to leave early we all weren’t very happy because we were having so much fun. The teachers told us that we had to go to the dorms and pack up. When we got to our room we all were talking about how we were sad to leave. After we packed our stuff and brought it down stair, we took a picture of the room being empty just for memories, just like the time when all of the girls wore long socks and shorts and we took a picture. We all had a lot of fun in the dorms and we still have a lot of memories in that dorm.

Imagination Day -By Kristi

On Tuesday March 15, it was Imagination Day and its when kids get to teach classes instead of teachers. The kids got to choose what they wanted to teach. Imagination day was like having the kids imagine how it would feel be teaching a class.

I taught soccer skills, and at first I thought it was going to be easy but when I started to teach I noticed that I would have to be a lot more tough. One of my best friends, Alex and I gave the class a big speech on how to try and how to believe in yourself and how to be a team. While Alex and I were giving the speech some of the kids noticed that we were being serious and after the speech they worked a lot harder then before.

My class only had about 6 kids in it. After our class was done we all huddled like a team and went over on what we learned and named our team Confidence. Most of the kids did say that they learned how to believe in themselves and learned that they needed to try and push themselves to do things. When all the kids said what they learned that day I realized that I learned one thing too. I learned that when teachers are tough and have a voice that is serious, kids listen to them a lot more then when the teachers have a kind voice.

I really enjoyed Imagination Day and would definitely do it again!

Marco Polo By Kristi

Hello Denis,
I really liked your presentation and I thought it was really good. I think you are the first person who made a presentation that wasn’t boring and I actually wanted to listen to you. Some people go on about boring stuff and half way through I would be half asleep. I thought your adventure was very interesting and sounds like a lot of fun! If I could, I would love to take the same trip with my best friend. I would like to know more about your trip. I really enjoyed listening and learning about your adventure. Thanks you so much for telling us about it!

What makes a great teacher? By: Kristi

What makes a great teacher?

I think it takes a lot of work to be a great teacher. From all the teachers I’ve had in the past years, I have learned that some teachers are very strict and want to get things done fast, but other teachers are laid back and like to have fun with doing work but also getting it done. Personally I think its better with a laid back teacher because I like to have fun with work but also like to get it finished. Sometimes I like to learn different ways from different teachers and it’s good to learn different ways sometimes.

My Favorite Web 2.0 tool By Kristi

Our favorite 2.0

My favorite 2.0 tool  is the class blog. I like the blog because you can usually blog about anything that happened to you or what happened to you that day. I usually like to blog about what happened to me that day because some amazing things happen to me. The amazing things usually happen to me when I’m with my horse. I also like to see what other people say on the blog and some of the things that I see on the blog are very interesting to read. I really enjoy blogging because i get to talk to people all over the world!!!

Skype In School by Kristi

I think using the Skype to chat with another class is very helpful because we could see how the children look and how their schools look too. I also think its helpful because our class could do work with another class and we would feel like were all in the same class working on the same thing. It could also help because we could show each other things on Skype that we can’t show on the Internet. I think it would be a lot of fun for us and the other classes around the world.

Ramapo Letter by Kristi

Dear Cayla,

Thank you so much for being a leader in my group I really enjoyed having you as my leader. Also thank you for guiding me throughout the challenges. I really enjoyed playing all kinds of games with you.

I really liked the games that we played that involved team work and challenges. I also liked the high ropes. It was very fun for me even though it was very challenging. I think I could have done better things to finish the high ropes challenge.

Once again, thank you for everything you taught me and how you made be brave about it. Thank you so much! I hope the next year 6th graders will have as much fun as I did. I really enjoyed it. Thank you!

From,

Kristi

My Worst Birthday

My Worst Birthday
My Worst Birthday

It was the day of her birthday. Today Rosy was turning thirteen. She was so excited that she woke up in the middle of the night breathing heavily. Rosy looked at her clock and it said12:30am.

Rosy looked out her window. It was still dark but then she saw something bright move quickly across the window. She was so frightened that she didn’t want to move out of her bed so she stayed there quietly. When it was all quiet, her window flew open and the wind flew quickly into her room. The room got very cold. Then she ran quickly to close her window. Rosy was so scared to go near her bed that she ran into her closet. She sat there shaking, looking at the floor, and then she saw a shadow of a giant person.

Rosy quickly opened her closet door thinking it would hit the giant who was standing there. After she opened the door she looked behind it and saw a person laying on the ground. Then she saw the giant stand up so she ran to her brother’s room but he wasn’t there. She then checked everywhere in his room and she couldn’t find him. Rosy now was scared and confused. Rosy then ran back to her room and tried to turn the lights on so she could see everything.

Before Rosy could  turn the light on, someone grabbed her by her leg and then she hit the floor and was dragged. She then slightly opened her eyes and saw her brother Nick looking at her. The last words that she ever heard were from her brother Nick. He said, “I was the first and only child living in this family and I will make sure it stays that way all the time!”
