Twitter – Lily

Twitter

I highly recommend twitter for school use, I think it is a fun and easy to use tool for school. I recommend it because it is an easy way to communicate with other schools across the world or just inside your own school. It is also very simple and quick to use because all you have to do is type what you want to say and then click “Post” I think it is a great way to share your work with other schools and I think that many more schools should be using Twitter.

Idioms – Lily

We are reading the book called The Phantom Tollbooth and it is FILLED with idioms. Idioms are figurative catch phrases that are fun to use and can explain a lot of things. My favorite idiom is, “I’m all ears,” because it sounds like the person who is saying it is saying: “I’m made of ears,” What it normally means is “I’m listening,” What would you do if someone was really made of ears and said, ” I’m all ears.”

Phantom Tollbooth- Lily

I understand how Milo feels when he does not want to be at one place but when he leaves he wants to go back to that place. Sometimes when I am at home I don’t want to be at home because I am bored, like Milo. Then I leave and go for example to  a friend’s house, when I get there I want to turn around and go back home go back home. I can also relate to the people who were there before time because they were always missing stuff and never keeping track of time. I do that a lot too. It would be 1:00 on Monday and I would think it was 5:00 on Wednesday.

I am similar to Milo in some ways but not in other. I am very curious like Milo because if I got the chance to go to a fairytale like world I would definitely take the chance to go.  I am not really really curious like Milo because I would not go to a place that had a sign that said do not enter. But I would let a talking dog in my car like Milo did.

I know how Milo feels when he ended up in a land that he did not know with weird creatures, people he did not know and he did not know what to do . When I started ski racing I did not know anyone and I had no idea what to do. What advice I would give Milo is to just go with it and if he sees someone or something nice looking try to talk to it for information. But if it looks mean and not helpful just leave it and go solo.

Phantom Tollbooth poem- Lily

There was a boy named Milo,

Who did not know what to do,

When he went somewhere,

He did not want to be there,

But when he went to a different somewhere,

He did not want to be there either,

Then he got a box,

A wonderful box,

Just there in front of his eyes,

Did not know who sent it or why,

He opened it up,

Was surprised with what,

A tollbooth,

A wonderful tollbooth,

He just wanted a peak,

And maybe a sneak,

Through the tollbooth he went,

To lands no one was ever sent,

He met a dog named Tock,

Who had the body of a clock,

He picked him up and went,

To Dictionolopos he was sent,

He went to jail,

But then he bailed,

He met a which,

No not a witch,

A which,

He went on an adventure,

A wonderful adventure,

To find two princesses,

Two princesses of rhyme and reason,

Will Milo get home?

No one will know.

Dreams for students in 2013 – Lily

I hope that the students in 2013 have the opportunity to participate in group projects with schools around the world with skype and video chat. They could do book groups, research projects and other fun cool stuff with them. Also I think that students should have the opportunity to read, write or research about anything they want. And for a period if they want they could have a time to present about it to the class. I also hope that sometimes students’ work in groups and sometimes students’ work independently to mix it up. I hope that no students are bullied and left out. Everyone should be able to take part in projects. Everyone should be treated equally and nicely. I think students should have a say in what they learn. Lastly, I hope that all students work hard on getting better at anything that they need to get better at in school.

My Passion- Lily

I have a lot of passions but my favorite is ski racing. I have been skiing since I was 6 months old and I love it! I love ski racing because I love meeting other people that race at other mountains, racing my friends and feeling like I am flying.

When I ski, I feel unstoppable, like nobody can stop me and I own the mountain!  Also skiing just takes me to another world. Like when I am mad and I ski I feel like all my anger was left on the chairlift.

In my ski team we go to other mountains and race or stay at our mountain. We have a lot of races. I don’t care if I win or lose because at least I skied, was a part of the race, had my friends and family cheer me on and that I had fun! But my favorite race is the Kandahar race which has over 200 people in it! I wait all year for the Kandahar race practicing for what the obstacles might be. The Kandahar is my favorite race because I get to go against over 5 different mountains, 200 people and I get to get to meet them and see their skiing styles.

I feel like skiing is a part of me and I like it so much I would ski everyday if I could! When I am older, I would like to be a professional skier. I hope that people who love skiing will try ski racing and see how fun it is!

Delirium by Oliver Wood – Lily

Everyone thinks that when they turn 18 after the procedure they will be cured or free from the Amor deliria nervosa or love. The procedure is when you turn 18 and you go to a lab and they do surgery on your brain which makes you not able to get Amor deliria nervosa. After the procedure at 18 you, get paired and get married and live a normal life. But then there are the Invalids who are the people who do not believe love is a disease. Everyone thinks the invalids have been wiped out but they have a lot to learn. The regulators or policemen try to tell everyone that love is a disease and they patrol everywhere to make sure no one has caught the disease. Everyone also thinks that boys and girls should not look at each other, boys and girls should not touch each other or make eye contact.  The main character Lena, has heard so many rumors about people dying from love also because her mom did it. When Lena was only little her mom was diseased with love and jumped off a cliff into the water. Or so Lena thinks she did. Lena lives a normal life in Portland; she does not go near boys, she goes to school, she runs on the cross country team, eats then sleeps. All normal until one day she meets a regulator and he gives her a hint to meet him for a sunset and she starts liking him. She secretly meets him a lot but does not know that he has a secret until one day everything changes for them. Find out in the book Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Letter from Hrothgar to Beowulf by Lily

Dear All Mighty Strong Beowulf,
Greetings! I am Hrothgar king of the Danes. I have this new mead hall which I want to use but every evening this monster Grendel comes in and eats all my people. I have been asking everyone far and wide to help defeat the monster. But tragically everyone that tried has been ripped to pieces. I kept hearing about you. All I kept hearing was “I bet Beowulf can defeat him as he is the strongest man ever!” I kept wondering who was this Beowulf and then I remember that you and I knew each other. I heard that you are amazing, strong and very brave. I will give you lots of wealth if you defeat the monster Grendel. Well, please respond soon.  I really want this monster gone.

The Danish king,
Hrothgar

Hurricane Sandy – Lily

Hurricane Sandy happened several days before Halloween and it struck hard. Hurricane Sandy was very powerful and left a lot of houses without power. Hurricane Sandy left me out of power for 3 days. A lot of people had to evacuate the comfort of their houses. I thought that Hurricane Sandy was not as bad and powerful as Hurricane Irene, but I still thought that Hurricane Sandy was very bad and powerful. I went outside during both the hurricanes and Hurricane Sandy did not feel as windy as Hurricane Irene. But in Hurricane Sandy it was still really windy and it was so windy that my house was shaking! Hurricane Sandy also rained so much though a lot of places near oceans or shores got floods and up to several inches of water! It was kind of scary looking out your window seeing everything being blown around. I hope that if there is another hurricane soon that it is not as powerful and that not a lot of people have to evacuate their homes.
