Letter to Denis and Francis – Logan

Hi Denis and Francis,
My name is Logan. I am in 6th grade and I go to PDS. We are studying medieval China and my 6th grade class watched your movie about going on Marco Polo’s journey. We thought it was really cool that you were able to finish the journey after all that had happened.

I really liked that you acted very professional in the movie and were very funny. It would be very cool if you could come to our school and present about your journey. We have A LOT of questions to ask you and we would be honored. I wish I had enough courage like you did “illegally” crossing borders and going through very dangerous war zones.

What was it like to travel through a warzone like you did on your journey? Was it scary? How did you feel? Also do you have a Skype account if you do we could Skype you. I hope I get to meet you someday if you come to our school or Skype us. It would be a really awesome if you could!!!

Picture Challenge – Tunnel – by logan

“Jimmy, stop playing tricks on me. You know I am afraid of the dark!”
No one answered so I ran as fast as I could back to my house. But every thing in the house was dark, with windows shattered, doors ripped off their hinges and furniture overturned. Then I saw him. It was Jimmy with a weird look in his eyes. I started crying “Stop it Jimmy stop it!!” I started running again this time for the town but that was abandoned to. It looked like a ghost town except more people looking like Jimmy walking around. Then I realized that they were ZOMBIES. It felt like he was breathing down my neck so I ran faster and faster sprinting as fast as I could. Then I tripped falling head over heels then blackness.
“Where am I?” I asked.
“You’re in China,” a young boy replied. Then I saw them! The zombies were climbing through the hole.
I asked the boy, “Where is the nearest transportation device?”
“There is the bullet train, only a five minute walk from here,” he said.
“Thank you,” I replied.
Those were the fastest five minutes of my life, running through the train station, jumping on to the train just before the doors shut. I was in the back of the train and just as I started to think I was safe I saw the zombies yet again. They were somehow hanging onto the back or the front and I never really knew which was which.
I couldn’t believe that nobody noticed them, so I asked the man next to me, “Don’t you see the zombies on the back of the train?”
“Are you crazy!  There are no zombies anywhere,” he replied.
“They are right there!” I was pointing straight at the zombies, but no one knew what I was talking about. I realized maybe I was the only one who could see the zombies.

Finally the train stopped I got out and immediately started running again then a man with a crazy look on his face grabbed my arm.
“Excuse me sir but hurry.” Then his grip tightened and it became unbearable and then I blacked out. The last thing I saw was the crazy man smiling…….

The next thing I saw was Jimmy Shaking me awake. I was on the ground feeling a little groggy then Jimmy said, “Are you okay? We almost missed all of Halloween! But its not over yet so lets go!”

100 Word Challenge by Logan

I opened the door and all of a sudden a GIANT TEDDY BEAR stood in the doorway! I ran back to my bed and flung the covers over my head not daring to move. After a while I drifted off to sleep. That night I had horrible dreams of giant teddy bears saying. “We’re coming to get you.” When I woke up the next morning I went down stairs to eat and then I saw them. My mom and dad had turned into GIANT TEDDY BEARS. I can’t believe psychotic, bloodthirsty bears are chasing me. Then I ran away.

What I do after school by Logan

Challenge #5

One of my favorite things to do is to play sports. I play on a travel soccer team and a school soccer team.  Almost every day I have either soccer games or practices after school. On Mondays and Wednesdays after school I have travel soccer practice in with my travel soccer team. I try to do my homework in school before soccer practice. After practice I go home eat dinner and do home work and go to bed.

On Tuesday’s and Thursday’s I have PDS soccer practice right after school with my 5-6 team. On the away games I always ride the school bus with my team mates. We have fun riding the bus. Then I ride back on the bus to school and my dad brings me home. When I get home, I do home- work, eat dinner and and maybe, if I get all of my homework done, I get to watch my favorite television show, Wipe Out! Then I go to bed. My days are really busy.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind – by Logan

The whole 6th grade has been reading a book called The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by  Bryan  Mealer. This book is a biography about a poor boy named William Kamkwamba who lived in a rural village in Africa. His father was a farmer and they didn’t always have enough to eat. William made all of his toys. William made an amazing windmill out of scrap medal, a spark plug, a bicycle wheel and anything else he could find. With the windmill he could generate electricity and pump clean water from the ground.   This was very helpful for his village and got lots of attention. After William made the wind mill he talked  on a Ted Talk.

The book tells how William’s father was a trader and met William’s mother at the marketplace. They had three children, William and his two sisters. When William was one year old his uncle gave his dad a job as a trader of tobacco where he could make a better income and his children could  have better life.

FDR Trip – Logan

Last Tuesday the entire sixth grade went to the FDR farm property and it was really  fun. I learned a lots of things like……

How to know which trees are good for cutting down for lumber  and which were not good to cut down. I learned how to measure a tree with different tools and find the width, circumference, height and thickness.

I also learned how to find salamanders, where to look for them and how to identify different types of salamanders. I know what sources they need to survive and how long salamanders can live.

Thank you for a great day!

Hi! My name is Logan and I am ten years old. I live in Red Hook, NY which is in the Hudson Valley. I have no brothers or sisters and I live with my mom and dad. I also live with two cats whose names are Stella and Bandit. Stella is 17 years old and Bandit is almost a year old.

My favorite sport is soccer and I have been playing soccer since I was five years old. I play on a travel soccer team which is called The Red Hook Twisters.  I also like to play base ball. The position I usually play is outfield or second base. This summer I went on vacation and went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. I went with my two cousins.

I go to PDS and I’m in 6th grade. Some of my favorite subjects are gym, art, math, science and humanities. The subjects I like the most are gym, art and math. I have been going to school here since pre-k when I was 3 years old. It is so fun at P.D.S. because all my teacher and friends are really nice and funny.
