Twitter in Schools – Maddy

I think Twitter is a great idea for schools. It gives a chance for students to share what they are learning and the projects they are doing in class. Twitter posts just take a few minutes of class time. It allow students to share their thinking over the internet. I enjoy using Twitter in my humanities class. It’s fun to scroll through and see what other schools are up to. Sometimes, I’ll find interesting new facts on Twitter that others have posted and get inspiration. I would recommend Twitter to anyone. It is a good way to share online with others what you are learning.

Idioms – Maddy

“It’s on the tip of my tongue” is an idiom that people say. It’s my favorite idiom and I use it a lot when I talk. Like all idioms it has a hidden meaning. It doesn’t mean that something is on the tip of your tongue, that would be a literal meaning. It means that you have something to share but you forget what you were going to say.

Dreams for 2013 – Maddie

In 2013, I hope that the students engage in creative projects and get to collaborate with kids who live in other countries through Skype. Also, I think that students should have the opportunity to write about anything they want and make stories. I hope that students get to work in groups and also work independently. Working independently is good because you can learn a lot about yourself and not have to rely on others. Working in a group is very important because compromises and collaborating is a big part of life. All students should be open to a lot of choices like art, music, dance, sports and acting. Students should all be treated with equal respect. My dream is that students will enjoy classes, make new friends and learn something new everyday!

Hurricane Sandy – Maddie

It is a Monday, two days from Halloween. My family and I are preparing for Hurricane Sandy by filling our bathtubs, making food while we still have power and bringing our flower pots inside. As I look outside I see heavy winds rustling the leaves but not anything that could be harmful, for now at least. Supposedly Hurricane Sandy is going to hit hard in New York this afternoon. Ferocious winds and rain storms are expected to start today. Schools have been canceled and flights have been affected because of hurricane Sandy.

Passions by Maddie

Hi, I’m Maddie. My biggest passion is modern dance! I love modern dance because it allows me to express myself. I enjoy dance in any genre. I think that dance can be anything! A person reaching for an apple could be considered a form of dance.

This is my fourth year taking modern dance classes at Barefoot Dance Center. My teacher is named Jessie and she makes modern dance fun by being a nice teacher! At my studio I am in The Company. This is a modern dance group that performs throughout the Hudson Valley. In the company, I got to choreograph my own dance. It was called Somnium and it was about three kids who were dancing in a dream.

I enjoy doing improvisation dancing because you don’t have to think about the dance moves you just do whatever feels right. Another thing I love to do is choreograph modern dance pieces. When you choreograph a dance it can be pressuring but I think the pressure pushes me to do better. Modern dance is something that I am passionate about and hope to pursue in the future!
