Coco The War Pup – By Olive

I woke up, my shoulder was sore from the uncomfortable nap time mat. I look around, and it’s dark and cloudy outside. The sun gives me just enough light to see. All my friends are still napping as I sneak around trying not to make a sound. I look in the room that all the teachers are in, CREEK, oh no, I forgot about that floor board! I start to sprint back to my mat. I hear footsteps, almost there, come on, I jump. I landed hard on my mat, I groaned. The pain was shooting from my side and up all along my body. But I keep it together and pull the covers up and close my eyes. My heart was pounding like a horse’s hooves against a hard gravel road.

My blanket is pear green. and my mat was cerulean blue. The footsteps got quieter, and I finally hear teachers talk again. I get up and hide in the empty cupboard and call the teacher. She walks in and looks around, she starts to come towards me and I made myself as small as a little rubber ball. She looked at me and told me to get out and be quiet.

I got out and walked, slouching like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. I got to the shelf and grabbed a coloring book and crayons. I sat on my mat and colored. The book already had scribbles on it but I found the perfect page, It was a beautiful rose with a leaf design all around it. I grabbed the pink and started, but then i stopped. I looked up and saw my mom in the big window, finally pick up time.

She opened the door and the teachers came to sign me out, FREEDOM, I yelled in my head. When we were walking to the car my mom said that she had a surprise for me. It was a cute stuffed little dog. It was a dark brown with a tan snout with a line up the head that stopped right at the ears. I loved it, I named him Coco.

“He looks like Pepper mom!” I said. We drove home and showed Sam, my brother. I sat for hours playing with him. “Coco needs a friend.” I exclaimed as I climb up the ladder to Sam’s bed. I grab pancake. (Sam’s stuffed animal)  And I played for a little longer time. Soon I had to go to bed. I was very tired.

A couple of days later I really wanted Pancake for myself. So, I went on a mission, I thought that it might take a couple days, or weeks, but I know I can do it! I started to sleep with Pancake in my bed, after one week my brother gave in. “I got Pancake.” I whispered to myself. “Finally.” I made a fort and played with all my stuffed animals as a celebration. I was called for dinner and left them all on my bed.

When I got back I saw pepper chewing their ears. I called my mom and I was in tears. Coco and Pancake were ripped. Coco had a hole in his ear and his string mouth was ripped, same with Pancake’s ear but it also had a small rip in it. (Coco is a stuffed animal by the way) My mom told me to calm down and to say that they got in a fight or something.

I thought for a while and then I had a idea! They came back from the war and were happy to see the rest of their stuffed family.

This taught me that even if you’re in a bad situation you can always have a happy ending.

I am Passionate About Horseback Riding By Olive

I am very passionate about a lot of things, but I am most passionate about horseback riding. I love to be able to canter around the ring and have the wind in my hair. There is a camp in Connecticut called SJ Riding Camp that’s a horseback riding camp. It is super fun and where I learned how to canter and jump. There is this part of  horseback riding that makes me feel free and happy. So I started riding when I was about four but then I took a break because I was only four, and then I got into riding again when I was around six or seven. I rode until I was like nine and then I took a very short break, and when I was ten I took up riding again until now.

I was riding at my friends barn, because I wanted to start riding there. I was cantering around and I was had to jump but I was very nervous because I never jumped while cantering and there were a lot of experienced people watching. so I cantered around two times before I jumped, and while I was going around I was remembering all the different things. Keep your heels down, two point (jumping position), releasing (loosening the reins) and soon it was time to jump I went over and forgot to loosen the reins and that makes the horse pop over over the jump. Then that made me pop out of the saddle and on the horse’s butt, we all started laughing and I had a good time.

Sadly I left that barn and now I am going to Southern Dutchess Equestrian Cnter, I like it here and now I am learning how to canter without voice cue. It is harder than with voice cue because when you are riding a horse with voice cue you can just sit back in your saddle while trotting (a gate that a horse uses) and kiss in the air. Also I am now jumping more and taking on more challenges, it is always fun to be able to do things like jumping. And soon I will be leasing a horse from SJ.

Blogging Challenge Week # 5 Nutella By Olive

Nutella is a delicious chocolate hazelnut spread that people love!

Nutella was created back in 1806, when Napoleon tried to freeze out British commerce as a means to win the Napoleonic wars (and take over the world). The result was a disastrous and caused the cost of chocolate to skyrocket and left Piedmontese chocolatiers  in the lurch. Ever resourceful, chocolatiers in Turin started adding chopped hazelnuts to chocolate to stretch the supply as much as Possible . The ensuing deliciousness was a fateful paste dubbed “gianduia.”

Over a century later, chocolate again became expensive and scarce due to rationing in Europe during World War II. An Italian pastry maker named Pietro Ferrero once again turned to the mighty hazelnut for salvation in 1946 and created Pasta Gianduja, renamed “Nutella” in 1964.

Holiday Fun By Olive

Holiday Post

As you all know probably know, it’s holiday time  this month, with the shopping and all the other stressful things. I am also happy that my whole family is getting together,  eating dinner and opening presents. I used to celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas, but my brother no longer lives with us, and he was the reason my mom was celebrating Hanukkah. I wish I was still celebrating Hanukkah, I loved playing dreidel, we would normally play for pennies or chocolate coins. Hope you and your family have fun celebrating the holidays!

Awesome Otters Week #7 Blogging Challenge

I have always liked otters. When I was little I always wanted to be a one. I thought that the idea of being able to dart underwater and catch fish sounded fun! When I was at the pool I would practice holding my breath. These are some things I know about North American river otters. A North American river otter is a mammal that is a part of the weasel  family. The weasel family is full of Mustelids, there are about 65 different animals in the weasel family. Some of the different members of the weasel family are, BADGER, WOLVERINE, FERRET. And more

You can Identify otters for their stout body, short legs, tapered tail and glossy fur. Otters stout body, webbed feet, flat head, and their closable nostrils help them get around and hunt underwater easily. Their eyes, ears, and nose are on the top of their head so they can see, hear, and smell better while the rest of there body is in water. Fur color can range from light brown to black, with a lighter, grayish colored chin and throat. River otters can be found in all watersheds of New York.

Otters eyes are shaped in a way that helps their underwater vision be sharper in situations where the water is murky. They use their ‘motion sensitive’ whiskers that help them cue in on prey location and movement. Although fish comprise the majority of their diet, amphibians and crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates are also taken when available. They are mainly only social with there the other otters in their family.  These are some pictures of some North American otters!

Blogging Challenge Week 3 Activity 1 by Olive

Soon my grandma and grandpa will sell the house that I lived in for most of my life and move. Luckily, they won’t be too far away but I will miss the old house. I wish I could still go to the  house and climb my favorite tree Boo. In the summer when my brother Sam and I were little we would climb the tree and play pretend spaceship, as the parents and grandparents sat under the big oak tree. This is a picture of my family (most of them aren’t here)

“Me and Michael are moving out of the house because we are getting old and the stairs are too long” -My grandma I have 5 brothers and 4  sisters (They are not all blood) only 1 of my sisters is in the photo.

The Caller By Olive

The Caller

Prologue:  One  night  a  man’s  niece  was  babysitting, but little did he know it would change his  life. When the man was gone the niece set the house on fire. While this was happening the father was trying to call because it was their bedtime. And he kept saying “ Check the children.” Soon it was enough. He drove home and saw his dead kids in the fire. From now on, his spirit haunts that property with a raspy voice from the smoke.

Lizzy, a 15 year old girl was babysitting. When the kids were trick or treating the phone rang. When she picked it up the caller said in a raspy voice, “SAVE THE CHILDREN!” and when the caller hung up she ran outside and started calling the kids. Since the rule was only trick or treating in the neighborhood. they came right over she said “sorry, just wondering were you were.”

It must be a prank call she thought to herself, as she sat down to watch the rest of the movie. The phone rang,  Lizzie let it ring until she heard the voice mail. After the beep she heard, “SAVE THE CHILDREN!”  She got scared and called the police. After she explained, and they said, “When he calls try to keep him on the phone,” and she hung up. When she hung up, the phone rang. She put the phone to her ear.

There was a soft and raspy voice it  said “SAVE THE CHILDREN OR I’LL GET YOU.” She screamed and ran outside. As she sat on the cold wet grass panting, the phone rang. She  picked it up. It was the police! A sigh of relief. They shouted at her, “Get the kids and get out of the house. The call is coming from inside.”
