On Thursday, April 26th 2012, we had a SLC presentation. SLC stands for student led conference. At the end of the year all of us have to do a SLC conference. This presentation is led by the student who is presenting. Only the parents and the advisory teacher is there when we do this and only the middle schoool does the SLC conference, not the lower school. The lower school just has parent teacher conferences. For this day we have the whole day off. The SLC takes about 30 minutes each.

Weeks before the conference, we filled out a sheet about the strongest and weakest things. For me humanities and Spanish are difficult and the other subjects weren’t so hard. After we filled out the sheet we did a presentation. The teachers made a format for the presentation and we had to fill it out. Then when we finished, our advisor checked it over and we were ready to go.

My student teacher conference was at 8:30 to 9:00 and it went really well. I had things that went okay and things that went great. It was less scary then I thought, although the goal we had to make with our parents during the conference was funny. The goal was to eat more healthier and go to bed at 10 or earlier. I felt scared at first but then calm once it was over. When I was doing the conference my hands got all sweaty.  I was terrified getting ready for it but once I did the conference I knew Joe had my back, so I was okay. It was a very positive experience!  I am looking forward to the next SLC conference… well sort of…

Blogging Challenge #6

If I wanted to do volunteer work I would be a worker that helps with animals. I would volunteer at a shelter or an animal hospital. I want to do this because I really like animals and I know a lot about them because my mom is a vet. I think I  want to follow her footsteps. The thing I would do if I volunteered at a shelter I would be a kennel person. A kennel person is a person who feeds and gives water to the animal, also cleans their cages, cleans the litter box and more stuff like that. I think it would be really fun to be a kennel person because I love animals and this job involves animals. When I grow up and if I do this I hope it will be a lot of fun!

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind – Samantha

In are class we are reading a book that is called The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind and so far this book is awesome. The two main characters in the book are William and his dad. This story is about William building a machine that will harness the wind. Though we didn’t get to that part where he harnessed the wind yet. We are only at chapter three.The first couple chapters are about William’s childhood.

The things that I like are all the stories that Williams dad tells. I like the stories because when you hear them in the beginning you don’t know what will happen in the end. My favorite story that he told was the lion and the leopard.I liked this story because it keeps the reader interested, like when the leopard and the lion didn’t get their food and they ate an old man. The old man was their friend and in charge of getting their food. So when the old man didn’t give the animals their food they ate him.

The other thing that I like is when William and his friends play a game they made up with fake guns. The people who usually play with William are his neighbors and cousin. His cousin is the captain of Iraq and  of course the game is called America verses Iraq. This game is like a big hunt because its two teams fighting each other with “spit ball” guns. The people where William is from thinks that Americans will always win in the fight.

If you ever see this book in a library o you should read it as its a great book…so far.

Tunnel, Picture Challenge by Sam

I was walking with my friend Derek in my beautiful garden in the dead of night. I was enjoying the scenery when I tripped over a rock. As I tripped, I had unveiled a dark, mysterious hole. Derek and I looked down the long, dark hole and decided to plummet into its depths. We found a piece of rope in my garden shed and tied it to a tree.

I asked him “ Who wants to go first?”

He said, “Ladies first.”

I laughed and said, “Ha ha now that’s real gentleman,”and he laughed at my little joke.

I went down first and Derek shortly followed and we looked around at the bottom of the deep hole but there was nothing but dirt and a peculiar looking, perfectly square rock. We looked around more and we saw a little piece of paper that was nailed to the dirt wall that said, “Whoever wants to take a test step on the rock to be the best.” Derek and I stared at the rock, but I hesitated a little. Though I gathered my strength and jumped on it with Derek… A secret door opened and we both stepped in it. It was a empty room except there was a golden vase resting on a podium. Inlaid with thousands of jewels, but drenched in cobwebs

Derek and I went over to the vase and looked at it carefully. We decided to try to take the vase. We swiped the vase and tried to run to the door although it didn’t work. The secret door closed in on us and as did the walls. The room kept getting smaller and smaller. Derek and I were scared out of our minds. Our life was ending and no one would know that we died. We would be a whisper in the wind forever.

I opened the door and tried to wake my mom. I ask her if she heard that moan but she said, “No.” Then I thought to myself, where was the moan coming from?  I just decided to go back to bed. Then I heard it again and I knew it was real. I went down the hallway and walked into the room where I thought I heard the moan. When I walked by the guest bed, a figure stabbed me in the back. I felt my warm blood on my chest and I knew it was the end for me.

Number Nine Week Challenge :

My favorite animals are cats. I like cats because they are calm and easy to take care of. I have a cat named Diamond. My cat is an Abyssinian and she’s brown with a black strip from her head to her tail. Her species is described as jumpers and explorers and my cat definitely fits those descriptions. My cat is female and she was born in 2/27/05, that makes my cat 6 turning 7.

I like cats because they teach people how to be responsible. Responsibility is an important  part of life. One of the ways to learn responsibility is by having a pet. It teaches you when to give food and water, when to clean the litter box or take him/her outside and a lot of other jobs. That’s how I learned responsibility, but that’s not the only way to learn responsibility.
The other things that teaches you responsibility are being a good sibling, doing your home work and a lot of other things.

I also like cats because when I am all cozy in bed my cats lay on you. My cat lays on me and it feels so nice. Diamond usually lays on my stomach, legs or on my body pillow. A body pillow is a pillow about as long as your body. Well on my bed, the body pillow’s above my head so my cat is usually above me. When it’s morning my cat jumps off the body pillow and on to my stomach. That’s some of the reasons that cats are my favorite animals, especially Diamond.
