Twitter in school. – Sam

I recommend it sometimes, because unless you are following National Geographics or Brainpop you will only occasionally get anything useful to the classroom. There is only the occasional interesting fact that a teacher gives. there really isn’t much to say about it, if you if you want to sift through hundreds of useless tweets to get to the good tweets be my guest sometimes you’ll get something good out of it. There a lot of good things about it though not just for education. Once our teacher wasn’t in class and we used twitter to show her our work and that worked fine. It’s also good for things outside of the classroom like keeping in touch with family and friends (but that’s not why I was talking about this). People also use twitter for telling people what your up to, there are better sites for that though. If someone doesn’t monitor it people can also put inappropriate things on your twitter by re tweeting.

Ask yourself – WW1 Poem – Sam LQ

There in the smoke stood the warriors the brave, the alive.
But ask yourself are they really the brave, the ones who came back, or are they the cowards leaving their friends in the fire in the smoke will you ever realize.
This is nothing to smile and cheer about. There are also the dead the ones left behind, the ones forgotten.
Even though everyone home will applaud you for your victory, you will curse yourself for leaving them behind.
You are a survivor in body but are you really the survivor of mind, you will never be the same.
You may have come home with minor scars on your body, but you are the unlucky one never will you forget.
Through winter and summer, over the years there will always be pain even though the pains of bullet holes have healed. Your mind is always broken never to be healed, never to be stitched, never to be put back together.
Is it really Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria Mori. Is it really sweet and right, to die for your country? That is the question and is it true?

Book Talk – The Hobbit – Sam LQ

A world filled with war and suffering where only few are at peace. A world where cities are burnt and treasures hoarded by dragons – that is what happened to the dwarves. Now they need the help of a hobbit by the name of Bilbo. The hobbits are a peaceful race that don’t like adventure much, but this hobbit is different. It took some persuading but the hobbit finally agreed to go on the adventure.

The adventure went on for a year and almost half way across the world, many hardships and empty stomachs are met along the way, none fully recover. There is also something new learned about everyone. This is what is in store for the characters of  The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Dreams for 2013–Sam LQ

Recycling seems to be a problem in our school, and people don’t seem to be using the recycling bins correctly. When we were doing the recycling there were a lot of bottles with caps on them and there were also some things that just shouldn’t be in there. I think that we could fix this by putting posters around the school telling people what they can put in the recycling and what they can’t. Another wish of my wishes for the school is to get back into recycling.

My world wide wish is for better food in cafeterias. Food that doesn’t come frozen and pre-cooked, food that is good for you and tastes good, food that people actually want to eat. I do not know how this will be accomplished but I hope that it will happen. These are my dreams for the year of 2013 and beyond and I hope that they will be listened to.

A Different Beowulf Story By Sam

There was once a monster that prowled in the night with a thirst for human blood. This monster was the night crawler. It lived in Denmark not far from Hrothgar’s kingdom.

One night, after five years of preying on travelers coming to the sea, it left the cave in which it was born to go to the Kingdom of Hrothgar. It was a great city with plenty of people but the night crawler went straight to the mead hall where the Dane’s were feasting. It broke in the door and ran into the hall, it grabbed all the men it could and took them back to the cave to feast.

After months of this happening night after night, Beowulf the great hero from the land of the Geats was asked to come help them. Beowulf sailed immediately to aid his father’s friend. Once Beowulf got there he went straight to the mead hall where he found the old king who told him about the monster.

That night Beowulf and his men feasted until the moon rose high in the sky. They then got in their positions to fight. They didn’t have to wait long before they heard the great footsteps of the night crawler. The warriors heard the wooden door creak then it burst off the hinges squashing to men and trapping Beowulf. The monster grabbed three men that were shooting arrows at him and ate them whole. After seeing that Beowulf couldn’t take it any more. He charged at the beast with all his speed, he leaped onto its back and slashed at it with his sword but it just shattered in his hands sending fragments of gleaming metal raining down. The monster threw Beowulf off his back and picked up another warrior devouring him whole. The monster was an unstoppable storm of claws teeth and fury anything in his way was destroyed the hall looked as if a hundred tornadoes had blown through at once. The fighting went on for hours but finally with one last hope Beowulf launched himself at the monster but it was ready for him. When Beowulf landed on him the monster threw him into the fire.

“I am Grendel the night crawler, the man eater and I have destroyed Beowulf,” Yelled Grendel.
Grendel stormed out of the hall crushing everything in his way eating any who tried to oppose him.
After he saw a distant island, he saw the fires burning. When Grendel saw that he knew that there were other people there so he jumped into the water and began to swim. After days of swimming he finally reached land. When he looked up he was under a cliff top town, So Grendel climbed the mountain to the town where he feasted all night. When the sun rose again a number of soldiers came past so Grendel followed them. After about an hour he came to the castle of the Geats. He charged in and at all who lived there but when he got to the mead hall he was hail fired by arrows but no matter for no mortal weapon could kill him. So Grendel destroyed that hall also and on he went looking for more food and that is what will happen to all the people to the world until another being strong enough to defeat came but that is another story for another time.

Huricane Sandy – Sam LQ

Over the weekend when Sandy hit, it didn’t end well for me. First my yard started to flood and about three hours later we looked in the basement and it was full to the top. Five minutes later the circuit breaker went out. Another few hours later the first floor started to flood so we had to move to the top floor. At three in the morning an electric pipe under the house broke and started to heat up the water in the basement. So the house tuned into a sauna but we thought it was smoke, so we got out of the house and called 911. When they got there they told us that the electric pipe had broken and the steam was probably poisonous and we had to evacuate and go to our friend’s house.

Geocaching Week 5 blogging challenge Sam LQ

Blogging challenge

Geocaching is a game played all over the world. Is a game where people hides a box or anything that you can hide things in. You go to geocaching.com and get the cordanants for a box then you have to go find it. When you get close to it though you have to find it yourself and if you want to take something you have to add something to the box. I have actually found two of them by accident.
I think that geocaching really good idea. I’ve never actually done the hunt but it sounds like a really good activity. I think that geocaching should announce a school geocaching day where schools all over the world go looking for caches. How I think that we could hide geocaches on the campus is only open the little tree area down at the end of the little soccer field so that people doing it don’t wander around the rest of the school.
