ONE FOR THE MURPHYS – By Eamonn

ONE FOR THE MURPHYS

Recently, we have read about how Carley and Toni are becoming friends and how Carley and the Murphys are becoming more like a family than just people who have to look after Carley. In the chapters that talk about Carley and Toni, it sounds like they are starting to see how they have a lot in common. For example, Carley thought that her mom was the only person who loved her. For Toni, it is the exact opposite. Her mom is the one that she feels does not like her but her father does. After Toni forgave Carley for not telling her the truth, it sounded like they liked each other more than before. I think that because this is a book, and not real life, Carley and Toni will be friends until it is finished. If this were real life, they would most likely have a few more fights and then go through the same process.

Looking at how Carley first felt about the Murphys and how she feels about them now, you can see a huge difference. Even with Daniel, she has become okay with being around and interacting with him. The biggest difference between Carley and the Murphys is Daniel and Jack. With Daniel, the difference was made by them being about the same age and liking the same sport. Compared to the start of the book  Carley and Jack have become a lot closer. For example, early on in the book, she heard him saying that although they liked her, she was still not a member of the family. Now they feel comfortable enough to sit next to each other and watch a Red Sox game. Most likely, they will all like each other for the rest of the book .

If I had one guess at how this book will end it would be:

The Murphys will adopt Carley and she will want to go with them. Then the police officer from the beginning of the story will show up and this time Carley will tell the truth. After she goes through one last up and down of regretting and loving her new family, all will end well. I think that this is the most likely story unless the writer likes sad endings. If so, everything would be the exact opposite for Carley. There is one other thing that could happen. Another possibility would be to take all of these endings and combine them into one. Then the story would end up having Carley go back to her mom and missing the Murphys. That would make a dramatic ending and last in your head. The writer could have done that so you want to go out and buy more of her books. Whatever the ending may be, I can’t wait to read what happens.

My Thoughts on One For the Murphys By Audrey

My Thoughts on One For the Murphys

In class, we have been reading a book called One for The Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, and I have been really enjoying it. Here are a few thoughts and predictions I have for this book.

One thing that just happened was that the main character, Carley, just made up with her friend Toni after a big fight. Overall, I am glad that the fight is over, because at times I thought it was quite pointless. I get why Toni would be hurt by the fact she told Carley all her secrets and Carley lied about her situation, but I do see why Carley hid the fact she was a foster child. I know from experience that kids can be mean or rude about a multitude of things, and being a foster child might be one of them. Also, Carley’s real past was a little bumpy, so having to talk about it might be saddening or annoying. In my opinion, having to explain things you would rather not talk about is not fun.

Another thing I noticed happening was that Daniel, Carley’s foster sibling, is starting to get along with her more. For example, they are laughing together when Carley hangs Jimmy Parton from a tree by his overalls, and Carley clearly states that she would much rather go to Daniel’s basketball game now then a few weeks ago. She is also happy when he makes a basket, when before she was happy when he lost the ball or missed. I am very happy that they have become better friends, because they have many things in common (such as their love for basketball) and it was a prediction I had earlier. But, I predict that, like with Toni, they are going to have a big fight.

I also have a few predictions for the book, other than the one about Daniel. I think, that in the future, Carley’s mom will heal and want to see her again. I think she will want to go back to Las Vegas and there will be a big fight between her and Mrs. Murphy, or Carley and Mrs. Murphy, or between her mom and someone else. I have this feeling because of a conversation the Murphys had about Carley. They mentioned her mother coming to get her, so it makes me think that  she is getting better and will come into the story soon.

I am so excited to be reading this book and I am so excited to find out what happens next!

One For The Murphys – Response

In the last few chapters, a lot of funny and kind of typical things happened. My favorite part was when Michael- Eric was being bullied by the kid wearing overalls. It was my favorite part because, Carley and Daniel told the kid to stop and then Carley hung the kid by his overalls in a tree. That made me laugh because and if I could, I would probably do the same thing. I also liked when Tony came over to the Murphys house and started arguing with Mr. Murphy about baseball. It was funny because the humor was very sassy. I thought the most funny part about it was they were calling each other the worst players names on the other team. Carley thought in her head that Mr. Murphy and Tony were very similar and I completely agree. In the last chapter we read Daniel had a basketball game. He made a few baskets and that was all because of Carley teaching him basketball. She sounded so happy when she made the baskets, and that showed that she is accepting Daniel more now.

Heroes In One For The Murphy’s By Matt

Well, this is who I think the hero’s for One For The Murphys are, enjoy!

I really think Carley right now is a hero in the book because she was there to tell Mrs. Murphy what happened to Micheal Eric when he took the seizure. She was also there to protect all of the boys. Also, Carley has been a hero for her survival of abuse and other things like that.

I think that Mrs. Murphy is a hero for taking care of Carley when she had nobody who cared at all for her. Also, she takes in kids with no family. Isn’t that just nice.

Well these are the people I thought were heroes in One For The Murphys.

One For The Murphys – HEROES! – By Bastien

In One for the Murphys, I believe there are two main heroes for me. They are, Carley and Mrs. Murphy. To me Carley is very brave because she took care of Adam and stayed strong when Michel Erik had a seizure. She was strong when Denis beat her, and there are many other times to be found. Mrs. Murphy is a hero because she stood up for Carley in many ways, like she helped her when the police came over. She trusted Carly when Michel Erik had the seizure, helped her kids stay in good moods and convinced Carley to come home when she ran away. She is very nice too, as she brought Carley to go shopping for school clothes, and gave her an Easter basket filled with things Carley liked. These two characters have big parts to play in this story and will help each other a lot.

One For The Murphy’s – By Sebastien

I think the heroes in One For The Murphys are Carley because Carley has been really nice to everyone and helping out. She set up Easter for the Murphys, read six stories to Ada, kissed him on the forehead and said goodnight. Her attitude has changed a lot since the beginning of her adventure with the Murphys. She gave Mr. Longneck to Michael Eric and that was something big for her because that was the only thing she remembers about her mom that was good. So Carley has shown that she can be trustworthy and does not have a bad attitude so since the beginning she has changed a lot. That’s how I can tell so she has really became a big hero to almost everyone.

One for the Murphys – By Mollie

I think Mrs. Murphy is a hero in the book One for the Murphys. I think she is a hero because she never gave up on Carley and she treated her like she was her own child. She also helped Carley out in the hardest part of her life. I really think Mrs. Murphy is  hero for helping a child in need.

I also think Carley is a hero in a way, too. She is a little rude to people but deep down she is a really sweet girl. She went through a tough time and she was raised in a weird way, but she still treated Mikel Eric and Adam well. I think Carley is a hero.

One For the Murphys – Hero Post – By Audrey

I think there are two heroes in One for The Murphys, and they are Julie Murphy and Carley. These two characters have done the most things that make me think they are heroes.

To me, a hero isn’t simply someone who does a good deed. The deed they do has to have a personal effect on me or someone I care about. In One For the Murphys, I think that a hero should have a good effect on one of the main characters. So although the dad in the story, Jack Murphy, is a fireman, I do not think he is a hero in this story because he does not have a heroic effect on a main character.

The first one is Julie Murphy because she helps people. Not just that, but Mrs. Murphy always cares about people even if they are mean to her. For instance, when Carley was rude in the beginning, she didn’t yell at her. She wants to know everyone’s story and she is one of the most understanding characters I know. For example, when Michael Eric got punched by the kid on the street, Mrs. Murphy comforted her son. Also, when Carley ran away, Julie went out to look for her and took her back in. Even just having the courage to host a foster child is heroic, because it is helping a needy child and she is doing what is right no matter what others say. In my opinion, doing what is right is always the most heroic action.

I think the other hero is Carley for many reasons. Sure, she can be rude and a joker, but there are some moments where she acts hero-like. Plus, she comes from a hard background, which means that she will still have some pain in her from before. This can cause some emotional aggression and sadness in people. But she was brave in that situation, and she got through it, which to me makes her a hero. Also, when Michael Eric got a seizure, she stepped up to help Julie with the Easter Baskets and putting the boys to sleep. She actually cares for Adam, Daniel and Michael Eric. Even though Daniel can be a brat, she doesn’t lose it with him.

In conclusion, out of all the characters in the book, I think that these two characters are the heroes because of their love for the other characters and their bravery.

One For The Murphys – Heroes – By Julian

I think the heroes in One For The Murphys are Mrs.Murphy and Mr.Murphy because they are taking in Carley. To me that is heroic because they are kind of saving her from growing up with her real parents who are kind of abusive. They are also heroes because they are not only taking her in, they are also trying to make her feel comfortable. They are also buying her clothes and spending a lot of money on her.

Heroes In the One and Only Murphys-Eden

There are a lot of heroes in tons of books but some of the heroes in One for the Murphys are Michael Eric and Mrs Murphy. I think that Michael Eric is a hero in the book because when he gets back from the hospital he walked in the house and gave Carly a big hug. After he hugged her, he sort of changed her life and she started feeling like part of the family. Before the hug, she was being very rude to everyone because she really missed her mom. I also think that Mrs Murphy is a hero because she really loves Carley and takes care of her so well. Carley is very hard to take care of and never listens to anyone because she misses her mom. One thing that Mrs Murphy did that is heroic was when Carley was being really rude to the waiter  at the restaurant and Mrs Murphy but was telling her to stop but managed to keep her temper. In the book, it explains that it looks like Mrs Murphy is losing her temper but she still talking very gently to Carly. Most of the people in the story are heroes but Mrs Murphy and Michael Eric seemed the most heroic to me.
