Yesterday we skyped with another 6th grade class in MO. Skype is a type of video chatting tool that I pretty much use every day. Many schools everyday use Skype as a web 2.0 tool. I learned a lot about MO yesterday just from the one call. I think that Skype is can be very helpful in school. You can learn about where and who you are Skyping with but you can also just have fun with it and just talk and socialize.

Yesterday the Skype call went really well. The only big problem was when we last the call and every once in a while the call would get either REALLY blurry or we wouldn’t be able to hear the class. We lost the call right in the middle of the session. It was mainly because of Internet problems. If you have your Internet totally hooked up, whenever you Skype it should always work.

Skype is a useful tool in class in some ways but not useful in others. Lets say you wanted to learn more about a state or country, then you could Skype at school to learn more about that place, but it wouldn’t be good if you wanted to learn something about the area you lived in. It wouldn’t be good to learn something about your area because you could just find that out yourself.

I really liked Skyping with the class in another state but I just didn’t like how the picture wasn’t clear. I also didn’t like how we lost connection with the class. It was really fun and it was my first time using Skype and now I am going to ask my parents if we can use Skype at home.  I really liked listening to what the other school did during the day. It was interesting to see the differences in our schedule.

Skype is an Internet communications company that allows people to see each other visually. It can be a useful tool for teachers and students because you can talk and see each other. I think students might be interested in talking with other students from other schools and who live in different states…or for that matter different countries. In class, we could learn about other schools and what they do at school. We could also talk to people in other countries; so if we are studying India and we want to learn more about say Indian schools we could just Skype them.

Our class recently Skyped a school in Missouri. What is Skype you ask? It’s a free program where you can video chat with your friends all around the world. There are extra some features that you must pay for. The program was originally formed to allow families to contact their relatives who were away or in war. When we Skyped the school in Missouri we learned a lot about how our school is different from their school. It was really fun to see other kids and chat with them.

So is Skype useful for learning? I say yes. Skype can broaden your mind. It could allow you to see how other people around the world talk or act. It allows you to make worldwide friends. It could show you how much different your school is from another persons school. It’s kind of like pen pals except you can see the person you are talking with! It’s an experience no one should miss.

I really enjoyed Skyping with the St. Charles school in Missouri. I really enjoyed it because it was a lot of fun to see our new friends. Also, it was fun because we got to share where we live and things about our school that we enjoy. The class in Missouri talked about their school and some of their teachers. We asked them questions and they asked us questions. I really had fun because we got to see their school and hear their voices!

I think that Skype is a good tool to use in class because you can make friends in different countries or different states, kind of like Skype pals. When Skype was originally made it was intended for people to contact their family or friends that work for the Marines. I think that there is a school Skype that is just used for school purposes. On the school related Skype you can still talk to our Skype friends and pals, but its completely based on school topics. I think that Skype is a good thing to use in class because it can be used for very good reasons!

Skype

Skype is a free program used to video chat and call other people around the world. You can pay money for optional features. Also Skype is much cheaper to call places like Asia than on your phone. For example, on Skype I can call my father’s cellphone in Asia for a few cents per minute. The only way someone can call another person is if they go to Skype on their computer or phone, but the other person must have Skype too.

I think Skype can be useful in school if you are going to video chat another school. It won’t be useful if kids video chat other kids when they are in their academic classes. Skype is a good way to learn new technology. I think Skype is a great tool to communicate with other people.

I think Skype is a useful academic tool because you can use it to contact other schools. You could compare classes and what you are doing in them to people in other schools and learn something from them. This would help us learn from other students in other countries as well as learning additional facts. Other times if the teacher is sick, he or she could Skype us for a lesson.

Yesterday we Skyped a 6th grade class in St. Charles, Missouri. The connection was kind of sketchy, but we had a good time. We shared details of our area and schools. Their class was bigger than our entire grade! They must have a very big school. Yet they said they only had 300 kids on campus. Hopefully we can Skype each other again. We learned a lot about them and their area which proves Skype is educational.

Yesterday in class we Skyped with another class in Missouri. It was very fun to communicate with and see another class. Before the video chat our class had a little bit of preparing.  We were given a class or subject or anything that goes on in this school and we had to type some things about it. I had sports at the school and our schedule with the letter days. When it was time for the video chat both humanities classes came to Shirley’s classroom and we started video chatting with them. We learned lots of things about Missouri and what they have been doing in class and what there school is like. Then we shared what our school is like. It was a long video chat and it was really fun. I cant wait to do another one.

Skyping is very useful in class because if someone was sick we could Skype with them and they could see whats going on in our class. If we wanted to Skype with a different school or place, I think its a very useful tool. We could also use Skype to learn a new language or Skype with someone that you haven’t seen in ages. Skyping is mainly a video chat but there are some additional parts you have to pay for. It’s also worldwide! Skyping was originally designed for Marines to contact their families when away from home. It’s a great way to learn or catch up on homework or learn new things. It’s a way to discover new things. Skyping is great!

Yesterday we Skyped with a school in Missouri. Skype could be a educational tool because we could talk with our teachers, or if we needed help, we could Skype our friends and ask for help and it would be SO much less time than email. However, it could be bad as you could be talking to friends when you should be doing your work. Teachers could use it to see if we are fooling around when teachers are out. Skype is also good to exchange homework and give advice.

I think using Skype was very cool. The idea of us talking to another school…. how cool is that! We also learned that their school is quite different than ours. Talking to each other on the Skype is much faster than sending written letters to each other. This whole experience was all so new and amazing to me and we should do it more often.

Yesterday, our Humanities class Skyped with another class in Missouri.  Everyone in our class shared something either about PDS or where they live.  I got to talk about Spanish class and the things that we did in it.  Almost everyone in the other class in Missouri said something about people who worked at their school.  I think that it was very fun when we Skyped them, because It was awesome being able to talk to a class so far away. Though it was fun, I don’t think that the way that we used skype was very educational, because all we did was talk to other people far away.  We didn’t really learn anything, except a few facts about their school and where they lived.

I think that Skype isn’t a useful tool in general to have in a class.  I think that because Skype is mostly a social program and I don’t think that just talking to people in other places helps us learn anything.  The only way that I think that Skype could be useful in class, is if we talked to some expert on something who we couldn’t see in person.  If the person was an expert on Greek myths for example, he/she could tell us more about it than we could learn from somewhere else.
