Week #5 Blogging Challenge

Activity #1: Write a post on food that is popular in your country.

There are many different foods that are popular in the U.S.A, but if I had to pick just one I would pick a Burger. They come in so many different ways like:

  • Cheeseburger
  • Veggieburger
  • Hamburger
  • Bacon-burger
  • Texas-burger
  • And a lot more

You can also get a lot of toppings on your burger like:

For those of you that have never had a burger they are like sandwiches, but I think they’re better. Also instead of bread they use rolls. Don’t worry there is a lot more than just burgers in America! My Octoberfest CheesburgerChris via Compfight

My Family is mostly Irish and American so there is a lot of FOOD. The one thing we eat a lot is shepherd’s pie I love it. The ingredients in shepherd’s pie are potatoes, peas, and mince and it’s easy to make. The other thing we eat is lasagne, and that’s my favorite.  We used to eat it all the time in Ireland.

There are a lot of ingredients, but it’s mainly pasta and tomatoes. In America we eat a lot of stir fry. They’re great and very healthy we mainly eat the vegetable stir fry. My mom loves the vegetables because she is a vegetarian, but my favorite is chicken stir fry. Those are some recipes from my family!

Thanksgiving by Lexi

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is full of surprises

New people

New food

New adventures

But the truth of  it is

the holiday season

is just a way to see the people

You want to see

and taste the food

you want to taste

Taste

The leftover taste

Of mashed potato in my mouth

Can start to taste like toxic waste

Toxic waste ain’t so good

When it’s in mashed potato form

Miss

I’m missing my step cousins a lot

I wish they would come running back

I guess I thought

Thanksgiving wouldn’t feel as short as snack

Chew

The gum in my mouth

Is starting to taste pretty bad

Let me go spit it out

I’ll be a minute now

See

The kitchen still isn’t clean

Bins of turkey still all over the counter

And while my cat is acting like the queen

I sit and watch, she thinks she has power

Think

I miss New York City

And all the famous people I got to see

But next Thanksgiving will be pretty soon

And New York City will always be there

Stuffed

My Stomach is so full

Two courses of the same food

And a table of dessert

But it was so good

Feelings

Thanksgiving is full of surprises

New people

New food

New adventures

But the truth of  it is

the holiday season

is just a way to see the people

You want to see

and taste the food

you want to taste

So thats it…

Thanksgiving Day – By Corinna

Thanksgiving Day:

Thanksgiving day is oh so fun

Especially when the guests start to come

Food scents and chatter fills the air

And the thought of that much food, I can’t bare

My mother talks to the guests about food

All of the waiting for the feast is just so crude

David and Katie plan out their dishes

When I break the wishbone, I’ll make my wishes

Burning food scent stuck in my nose

The cranberries and turkey don’t smell like a rose

Seasoning and breakfast sausage is the only talk

When I tasted the turnout, it was just like chalk

Peeling apples and slicing them up

David does it into a measuring cup

Chopping up broccoli into a pan

Putting it into the oven is soon Katie’s plan

My mother walks around opening champagne

I hope that the turkey she cooks isn’t plain

Pots and pans clank around

Later I hear a beeping sound

The turkey is done, and the guests dishes go in

My father chats with Katie about football, like who’s gonna win

Katie then saw a shock on her cellphone

She saw the Steelers re-posted her photo on twitter even though to them she was unknown

The cold air blew through the broken window

I was beginning to freeze from the continuous airflow

Tension and calmness was the feeling I felt

Over the mashed potatoes, butter would melt

Loud steps around made by my mom and dad

Dinner was close to ready, that makes me glad

Champagne full glasses clinking softly

If Katie or David dropped theirs, it would sure be costly

Water runs for the freshly bought flowers

Their wonderful smells do their powers

My dad’s jokes just won’t stop

He cracks them while my mother chops

The timer beeps and the candles are lit

Everyone finds their place card, and there they sit

Finally we can stuff ourselves with all the food

Thanks are said, and happy is the mood

I’m so full, I have nothing to say

That is why I love Thanksgiving Day

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things By: Corinna

In life, everyone has favorites. Favorite sports teams, food, and even actors. I have many different favorites. For example, my favorite food is sushi. I love fish and sushi is mainly fish, so I think it tastes delicious. My favorite food type of sushi is miso soup. I’ve loved it ever since I was little and used to call it “square pasta soup”! Not to mention, I have about three favorite colors. I love hot pink, sky blue, and electric purple. I think they’re all really cute and cool colors. Like MANY other people, I have favorite music artists. I like pop the most since it can be upbeat and fun or slow and sad. My favorite solo singer is Selena Gomez. Not only is she an amazing singer, but she’s a really good actress too. She has an album from 2011 that is REALLY good, but she does have newer album that came out this summer. I listened to it all summer and still enjoy listening to it! My favorite band of all time is The Wanted. They have such unbelievable songs and voices! I’ve seen them twice in concert and BOTH times they were so impeccable. They have a great first album and I can’t stop listening to their new one, “Word Of Mouth”.

In addition, my favorite book is “Favorite” Karen McQuestion. A 16 year old girl gets hospitalized by a random man. It turns out everything is linked with her mother’s disappearance! It’s my favorite book because of all the suspense and drama. I also have 3 favorite animals and they’re all SO CUTE. I can’t decide between pandas, elephants, and koalas. They all are adorable and so cute that I would maybe like to have a  baby koala, elephant, or panda as a pet. Favorites are opinions and some are stronger than others. As you can see, there are many different opinions on different subjects. Those are my favorite things!

Five of my favorite things- Alex

Blogging Challenge #9A

People everywhere around the world have favorites. From favorite color to favorite sport. The point is that everyone has favorites and nobody can change that.

For example my favorite color is turquoise. I just love the color with the mix of lots of blues and greens. It makes such a beautiful color. My favorite food is sushi. I love fish and for some reason I also love the nori which is by the way seaweed. But my absolute favorite part of sushi is the rice and soy sauce. I love the sweet and salty taste of sushi. I think it is my favorite food because of how many different flavors are in it.

Next, my favorite sport is softball. I really haven’t played a lot of sports but my favorite is softball. When I’ve played I have had so much fun. Also my favorite singer is the one and only Selena Gomez. She is my favorite singer. When I was about 8 for my birthday my dad took me to a Selena Gomez concert and I got second row. I even touched her hand. I also love her songs. My last but not least is my favorite movie. My favorite movie is Tangled. It was basically another version of Rapunzel. I also love Disney Princess so Rapunzel is one of my favorites.

A Day In The Life Of: Cormac

I get up at about 5:30 in the morning, which is kind of annoying.

For breakfast, I have cereal, or eggs and toast.  For lunch, I have a sandwich, or whatever is for lunch at school. Usually, it’s something very interesting, and we probably haven’t had it before.  For dinner, it’s never very definite.

Whenever I have a break, I like to read a good book, or maybe play computer games.  Speaking of breaks, I like all the breaks we have at school, snack, lunch and common time, where we hang out and study, or help with small jobs around the school.

Another annoying thing about timing, related to school, is that the ride to school can take 45-60 minutes. If the traffic’s bad then it’s more like 60minutes, although, school is totally worth it.  I love school, because of all the choices we have, like which electives we want to do.

Our electives  are our arts classes.  Right now, for this trimester, I have Foundations In Theater.  Foundations In Theater is all about acting games, that develop our acting skills, like our boat game.  The stage is the boat, and if the captain yells “Port!” then we run left.  If they yell “Starboard!” we run to the right.  There are lots of other fun games to.  I have Fabrication Lab, which most people call Fab Lab.  In Fab Lab, we have lots of fun programming and building circuits.  My partner and I, made two lights alternately flash!  Pretty beginner, but then again, that’s exactly what we are!  Then for my third and and final elective, I have Percussion Instrument Building, where we are going to build percussion instruments.  So far, all we have done is experiment with different rhythms, and come up with some of our own.  It’s really fun!

About My Town – Cormac

I live in a town called Gardiner, but I’m going to tell you about New Paltz, since it’s right next to Gardiner, and has a lot of interesting history.  There is one street, called Huguenot St. that has tons of historically preserved houses on it.  These houses have a lot of historical value, and I once went on a tour there.  I live by Mohonk, and Lake Minnewaska.  I always get the two confused, but I think Mohonk, is the mountains where the people do a lot of hiking. Sometimes my mom takes my sister and I to Lake Minnewaska, to swim, and we pack a lunch, and it’s all really fun.  I love all the restaurants that are available – they offer a delectable cuisine and especially, the Mountain Bistro, and the Bistro in New Paltz.  My town is really great.  Gardiner, has a lot of interesting things to do though, as well. Please come to our town soon!

My Christmas and New Years Traditions – Manny C.

I celebrate Christmas on the 24th instead of the 25th. The reason for that is because my mom is Danish and that’s the way she has always done it.
On Christmas Eve my family and I get up early in the morning and start cooking the dinner. We usually have 2 ducks, mashed sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, broccoli and oven roasted potatoes. I help my mom prepare it all and then since my sister and I get to open one present in the morning, we do. Then the whole day my sister and I spend using whatever we got.At around 3 o’clock my Grandmother comes over. We call her Mormor because that’s Danish for mother’s mom. (Now that she has a house near us she doesn’t have to fly in from Denmark). If she was still living in Denmark she would have to fly over on the 19th or someday near that and stay with us. The only thing I miss about Mormor coming is she always brought Danish candy that you can’t get here 🙁 . When Mormor comes over on Christmas Eve she brings the rice pudding which I will explain later on. She stays with us and just helps my mom with the last of the cooking.

7 or 8 is when we start eating the feast that was hard to prepare, but even harder to eat! There is always so much food and only 5 people. We always have leftovers for other days. After my sister and I are done we have to wait until the parents are done eating. For dessert we have rice pudding w/ almonds, and a cake. Once my whole family is done eating my mom gets out her fancy 100 year old glasses that she keeps in a cabinet in our living room and pours in some rice pudding. We have an exciting way of eating this.

At first when the rice pudding is done my parents and Mormor put some peeled, chopped up almonds into a big pot with all the rice pudding. There is one whole peeled almond and it is dropped into the pot. They then stir it all up. My parents serve it to us in those glasses and tell us the rules. You eat and look through your cup of rice pudding to try and find the one whole almond. If you find it then you get the amazing marzipan pig that my sister and I sculpted.

After we see who got the almond and they claim their prize, it’s time to open presents! We do this like presenting the present to that person. My sister and I spend the whole night using and playing with our presents.

My Christmas Eve 2011

This year my Christmas Eve could have been better.

On Christmas Eve in the morning I, as usual, helped my mom with the dishes and preparing the ducks with my sister. When we finished the ducks my sister went to go outside and found a present in our storm door. We opened it and found out it was “Just Dance 2 Wii”. We thanked our Mom and Dad and went right to playing it.

My sister and I basically played it for the whole day and then we stopped at around 3 to watch The Nutcracker and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as a tradition. Mormor watched us play the Just Dance game again until 5 so she and my sister helped my mom. My dad and I watched the Lord of the Rings all 3 movies on 6 discs and they were great. We didn’t watch them all on Christmas just the last disc to the last movie, The Return of the King.

At around 6 we had to eat because, this is why my Christmas wasn’t so good, my Dad had to work. He had a concert scheduled for Christmas and I was really bummed. He stayed only to eat and then he left 🙁 . I opened my presents and I was really happy that I got Dre Beats Solo HD (which are headphones designed by Dre) from my dad. I also got shoes and clothes. My dad gave me a crash ride cymbal and I freaked out! I played it so much that my sister almost shoved my drumstick down my throat. That night I was so happy.

My New Years 2011 – 2012

In about a week it was New Years and again, my dad had to work 🙁 . I was really mad and sad so I just hung out until 12 with my mom, sister and Mormor watching movies and eating cake. I guess it could’ve been more exciting but it was okay. I also read my book that I started called, “The Misfits by James Howe”. It is a really good book and I like it very much.
