I observe by Lukas

I sat there waiting for the time when I would be called to go up and do my best. I was so jumpy this always happened at every swim meet I did. I was jumpy I could not focus the only good thing was that they had a stand by pool. In this pool I could release all my nerves and just swim.I poked my Head out of the water and herd the coach that was there say Lukas your up. Coach T.J. was tall and had short black hair  and he was wearing a blue shirt and pants. I was ready at any moment to jump up on that block and start my race. that day I was swimming a 50 yard freestyle and I was ready. I stepped up on the block and herd the man say “take your mark” and then he said “stand” I fell in the water trying to stand up. I got back up really fast and then he said “take your mark” and I herd the buzzer it flashed and made a sound so loud I almost went def. I flew off the block and swam for my life. I was at the other end in what felt like seconds I flipped and rocketed threw the water. I came up to the surface and swam, I did not dare breath until I got to the other side. With a boom I tapped the pad at the other end and fell into the water. I felt like I had just come off a sugar high, I felt like I could use a nap but my time was not over yet.

Picture Story by Lukas

The day I found a hole in my basement was not the best day. I woke up, got breakfast and then I heard a clunk. That clunk was my dog hitting the house again. I had to take the dog on a walk so he would stop banging the house. I told my dog Whiskers, “It’s time to come in boy.” Whiskers jumped up and ran into the house. He ran into the basement and fell in the hole .

The hole had never been there as far as I knew, but in that hole was over 10,000 dollars in cash. After I stuffed 100 in my pocket I fainted.

When I woke the police were all around my friend’s house. His Dad stepped out in hand cuffs. I wondered what was going on so I went to his house that afternoon and asked what was up. Billy said that his dad was arrested for stealing food to give to other people on the street. He said,“I think that he should not have been arrested and he should just have to pay for the food.”

That night I thought about all the money I found and I came to a decision that I would donate all the money I found to the poor. The next morning I asked my mom to help me find a homeless shelter so I could make a donation. My mother asked why we had to donate, as we were already poor enough without giving all are money away. I quickly explained about all the money I found yesterday. My mom said it was okay and we left to find a shelter.

Edublogs post week 9 by Lukas

Edublogs post week 9Meteor Shower November 17thEvery year around this time we get a meteor shower. This meteor shower is called Leonid. This meteor shower is very bright but can still be blocked out by the moon. This time they’re will be a bit extra due to the comet called 55p/Temple Tuttle that passed earth and almost hit. A couple of pieces from this comet have joined the November 17th meteor shower this year. Now scientists think that the moon will block out most of our view of the meteor showerIf you are to miss this meteor shower there will be another coming in around December 14th. For that one the best amount you will see is 100 meteors per hour. Most meteors will come and go in a second if you’re lucky. The best way for you to see them is to get in a dark spot far away from buildings and trees. Face the opposite of the moon so it does not block your view of the great meteor shower.

Even if you miss all of them or you are not available you can always see it the day after because most meteor showers can be seen several days after. They can also be great for kids you can take a video from one of these links below and check it out your self.

No School Post by Lukas

On Saturday I played my xbox until it was time for the Halloween party at Aidan’s. When me and my mom started to drive we saw a power line that looked like there was something wrong with it, it had sparks flying and it lit a spider man sticker on fire but the snow put it out. We kept driving until we got to the party. The first event was waiting for every one else the second was bobbing for apples and getting candy. When it was time for the pinnate Aidan’s dad told us that we could use anything that was plastic, so I got the bottom part of my costume and sliced the top came clean off and we all dived for it. I grabbed the pinta and ran away. I got practically all the candy and then I had to go home.

On Sunday the power went out and on and the little flickers did not effect my xbox so I played that as the power went out and back on until the power shut down all together. For the next five seconds. I ran to get the lights only to find my mom with all of them downstairs then the lights came back on and I went to sleep.

I worked on my xbox for most of Monday. Then I went to a special swimming Halloween event at Marrist college. And last I finished swimming and went trick or treating in my development and the development next to it. Then we had prayers and went to bed until the next day. On Tuesday I stayed in bed did some reading then for the rest of the day played xbox and watched TV. I did the same thing on Wednesday but I had swimming and we worked extra hard. And that’s what I did when the power was out at school.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind – by Lukas

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind by William Kamkwamba

My favorite character is William’s father. He is a great character to me because he tells great stories and always helps his son whenever he gets into trouble. He is over confident and shows this when he gets drunk and takes on twelve men. This is way too much for any normal person. Getting arrested but first eating a great meal was my favorite part. I also like when the father told the story about William eating the gum and his dad giving up a week’s pay for his son as this shows how much he loves his son.

My family and me – by Lukas

Week #8 Challenge

Let me tell you a little about my family. I live with my mom, dad and my sister Reilly in New York. My dad’s name is Dale and he is an executive producer of TV commercials. He LOVES TV, of course!  One of his other hobbies is basketball, so we love playing hoops in the summer and watching basketball on TV. My mom, Debbie is a full-time mom, but she is also studying for her masters degree. It is great to have my mom home everyday. My sister Reilly is 14, well she will be 14 in two days and she is in 8th Grade at PDS as well. She loves art and voice – I hope she puts those vocals to good use some day as she ALWAYS sings!

My extended family all live in Barbados. My grandparents own their own business, but they don’t have any hobbies, that I know of.  I have three uncles, two aunts and six cousins. My oldest cousin, Chance, who is way too cool, lives in Florida. He is sixteen and in 10th Grade. He lives on Facebook, but we love spending the summers together in Barbados.

Every summer and Christmas we all come together in Barbados. We enjoy going to the beach, surfing, swimming and sailing on the catamaran.  We have taken many vacations together as a family.  We have gone to California, Hawaii and Niagara Falls.

Next week is Thanksgiving. Every Thanksgiving my cousins visit from Virginia. It is a fun time. We stay up most of the night chatting, watching TV and playing Xbox. My cousin, Hunter is younger than me but we love playing the Wii together.

F.D.R. Field Trip – by Lukas

On Tuesday, 6th grade went to the F.D.R. farm to learn mainly about  salamanders but we got some time with other species to. We were met by to nice rangers named Cathy and Susanne. My group first went to  the salamander station and my partner was Remy. We went around looking under wooden boards looking for salamanders and we found a Red EFT, several Red backs  a Northern slimy dusky and Jeffersons. Then we went to the tree station. I personally did not like that station except for the measuring and the sawing. The sawing was pretty fun when we used a two man saw and we went back and forth over and over again until we got half way through. We took the long way back to the bus and thanked the rangers for teaching us.
