My Favorite Place – by Richard

When I went to Shelter Island

Every year I go to Shelter Island which is at the end of Long Island. Every time we go we always stay at the same houses. The houses that we go to, have a hammock, a dock and our own beach. This year when we went, we found a gigantic pylon on the beach that had washed up during the hurricane. That log led to many forts and bridges and also dams. The last three times we were there Cole and his sister Tess were there with us. We went swimming with him and he got stung by a jellyfish. One day,  Cole and I were swimming out to the raft and we saw some jellyfish. We got out to the raft and we didn’t really didn’t want to stay out there long. We jumped in around 3 times and then it started to pour and we couldn’t see the water. Cole jumped in after me and I had a boogie board and so the jellyfish went under me but it hit Cole in the arm and then we felt little things sticking in to us. They were little fish like things and they hurt. The next day we were in Greenport and we went to the fish market.  My dad was trying to figure out how to open a clam.  The person showed him and then she said, “Who wants to eat the raw clam?”  I offered to eat it because I love raw clams.  When we got home, I painted  a face on the shell and named him “Clambo”.

#GROOM – Global Read Aloud – by Bud

This year the middle school at PDS is participating in The Global Read Aloud. The name of the book is Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper.  Many different schools all around the world take part in The Global Read Aloud.

The book is very interesting and tells a good story about a girl who has Cerebral Palsy.  She is trying to overcome the difficulties that she has to face and there are many people who help her along the way like Mrs.V and her parents . A thing that helped her is called a Meditalker.  That was a computer talked for her.  After she got the Meditalker she tried out for the Wiz Kids, which is a quiz team at her school.  That is when people realized that she was very smart.

This book is really good and I think that all middle schoolers and others who are interested should read it.

Clean Water – By BUd

#5 blog challenge

 Water for all

In July of 2010, The United Nations declared Water for Life, which means all nations must provide clean and safe drinking water. It is called Resolution 64. Millions of people do not have safe and clean water. This is a right that no one can be discriminated from. Water must be affordable, and men and women must have separate access to clean water or the women will not use the water.

One can help provide clean water by donating to World Vision, a website that helps people get clean water every 30 seconds.  If you are looking for a website that can give you information about your check out the Rights to Water and Sanitation.

Article 31 says that everyone has the right to clean water regardless of economic circumstance.  6,000 children die each day from a lack of clean water and that’s why we need to do something about it!    BAD13 and #13stubc

Free rice challenge #4 – Richard

4 # blog challenge

I played a game Free rice to end world hunger. In the game I earned 300 grains of rice, and that was sent to people all around the world without food to eat. This program is part of the United Nations World Food Program.  I think that it is a good way to raise food and that it goes to a good cause. It is good to know that I put food on someone’s plate just by playing a simple game and I had fun while doing it. Free rice also has a goal to provide free education to people that don’t have one.

When you play free rice you can choose from a range of subjects, including humanities, math, chemistry and English.  Also, you can form group and play other groups.  Free rice can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.

About My Day – Richard

Blogging Challenge #3

On a regular school day I get up at 6:20 and get ready to go to school. At that point it is 6:45 and I have breakfast. After that, I pack up and leave at 7:45. What time do you get up to go to school? My dad drops my sister and I off.

As soon as I get to school, I put everything in my locker and then I start up my laptop.  Most of my schoolwork and homework are done on a laptop.  What type of technology do you have at your school?  One of my favorite subjects is Humanities, which is a combination of writing, English and History. What is your favorite subject?

At 12:00 we have lunch.  I usually bring my lunch, but on Fridays we have pizza day.  I buy pizza at school on Fridays.  What type of lunch do you have at your school.  After lunch we have recess and then classes.  Some days I have guitar, soccer or tennis after school.  What do you do after school? After that I do all my home work. And then I have dinner and watch TV.
