Geocaching – Aaron

A little while ago I went on my first Geocaching adventure. Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt that is done with a gps. We went to the Sleight Cache Once Removed. It was a replacement for the first Sleight Cache but it was still in the same area. Since this was our first time we had no idea what function to use on the gps. So we decided to walk down the Wappingers Creek Greenway and keep our eyes peeled. We walked more than 2 miles and spent more than 2 hours looking for the cache. We didn’t find it, but as we were walking back to the car I found the function I was looking for. It told us our coordinates. That way we could match the coordinates of the cache to our coordinates. Within 10 minutes we found it. I left a little pin and took a small plastic scorpion. I can’t wait to go caching again.

Huricane Sandy – Sam LQ

Over the weekend when Sandy hit, it didn’t end well for me. First my yard started to flood and about three hours later we looked in the basement and it was full to the top. Five minutes later the circuit breaker went out. Another few hours later the first floor started to flood so we had to move to the top floor. At three in the morning an electric pipe under the house broke and started to heat up the water in the basement. So the house tuned into a sauna but we thought it was smoke, so we got out of the house and called 911. When they got there they told us that the electric pipe had broken and the steam was probably poisonous and we had to evacuate and go to our friend’s house.

Hurricane Sandy by Michael

Today was a bit fun but sad. I didn’t have school and Hurricane Sandy is on the way. Got to sleep in from the weekend. It was dreary and cold when I woke up.  A lot of people near the shore have to evacuate in multiple states because they might get flooded. My dad might have to stay at his workplace since all around him is a hurricane. I am now trying to finish all my homework even it is not due for a long time. Just like right now.

Hurricane Sandy – Molly

“Life threatening storm” “frankenstorm” “super storm” “the perfect storm.” Hurricane Sandy has been called all of these things. if you look at a radar of Irene and a radar of Sandy, Sandy is about twice the size of Irene. hurricane Sandy started in the Caribbean and has been barreling up the east coast. Here is little check list of things you might need:

  • battery powered radio
  • water
  • canned non perishable foods
  • battery powered flash lights
  • candles
  • blankets
  • don’t open your fridge or freezer too often if you have lost power. In doing so, you will keep the cold locked in, otherwise, your milk and cheese will go bad.
  • extra batteries
  • anything you feel that is essential for your family

With that said, be safe and make sure you’ve taken all lawn ornaments, chairs, tables and any other things of your lawn or deck, and bring them in you house or garage.

Soccer Game-Sidney

Over the weekend, I had a travel soccer game on my home field in LaGrangeville. It was on a Sunday and I had lots of fun. We tied the other team Monroe 0-0 and it was a close game. Their team was a really good one and if we had won against them we would have been first in the league. I was put in a new position which was attacking center mid so it was a little different but I had enjoyed my game and it was really fun and I can’t wait for the next one!

I observe by Lukas

I sat there waiting for the time when I would be called to go up and do my best. I was so jumpy this always happened at every swim meet I did. I was jumpy I could not focus the only good thing was that they had a stand by pool. In this pool I could release all my nerves and just swim.I poked my Head out of the water and herd the coach that was there say Lukas your up. Coach T.J. was tall and had short black hair  and he was wearing a blue shirt and pants. I was ready at any moment to jump up on that block and start my race. that day I was swimming a 50 yard freestyle and I was ready. I stepped up on the block and herd the man say “take your mark” and then he said “stand” I fell in the water trying to stand up. I got back up really fast and then he said “take your mark” and I herd the buzzer it flashed and made a sound so loud I almost went def. I flew off the block and swam for my life. I was at the other end in what felt like seconds I flipped and rocketed threw the water. I came up to the surface and swam, I did not dare breath until I got to the other side. With a boom I tapped the pad at the other end and fell into the water. I felt like I had just come off a sugar high, I felt like I could use a nap but my time was not over yet.

My Type of Florida by Dylan

On a bridge over the ocean inlet,
Into a forest I go.
The canopy of tall bushes consume me.
The open windows let in fresh air.
Next to the beach we dive along.
A burst of salty wind blowing in my hair.
The place I have been missing is before my eyes.
Chunks of coral laying in the sand.
Jets fly above.
The car air freshener smells of a new car.
Everywhere I go I see motorcycles.
This is a motorcycle country.
Home again with the sun in my eyes.
The sun goes down
So beautiful and faster than ever.
