About My Town! By: Corinna

 Challenge #2

My town is Cold Spring, New York. My town is a small town only consisting of around 2,000 people. Even with it’s small population and size of 0.60 square miles, this small place has a lot of history and fun in it. In 1730, the first settler in Cold Spring Thomas Davenport arrived. Even though the Hudson River (which runs right next to Cold Spring) has been used constantly ever since the 1600s. Then, in between 1775 and 1783, George Washington named Cold Spring. He named Cold Spring after drinking out of a cold and refreshing spring.

Back in the 18th Century (1700’s), there was a foundry called “ The West Point Foundry” which gave Cold Spring it’s popularity. The West Point Foundry is what turned Cold Spring into a town instead of a small hamlet. Once Cold Spring’s popularity grew, they started supplying the Union Army with munitions during the Civil War. This is just a little of Cold Spring’s deep history.

Places To Visit

  1. Farmers’ Market:

Located in Boscobel, is a REALLY good and farmers’ market. My mom and I always love to go there for fresh produce and a great hill to roll down. Also, they sell really good ice pops, and different delicious desserts there!

     2.  Frozenberry Cafe:

Located in the town of Cold Spring, is Frozenberry Cafe. Not only do they have amazing self-serve frozen yogurt, but they have really good smoothies and milkshakes. The self serve is better for you than most frozen yogurt because, the main thing that they have is fruit.

     3.  Foundry Dock Park

Located at the Hudson River, is a breathtaking view of Storm King. You can see the beautiful river and the amazing forest. To get the best view, walk straight to find a gazebo. The gazebo is a perfect place to relax and see the beautiful scenery.
