Government Shutdown:Lexi

Challenge #4

Activity 2:

On October 1st, 2013, the government shut down for who knows how long. It shut down because there was disagreement between the House of Representatives and the other two branches. The other two branches are the President and the Senate. Their disagreement was over the new healthcare plan also known as Obamacare.

Many parts of our government have shut down. A lot of services that were available to be used by the people of the USA are not available anymore until the shutdown is over. Any people who had jobs connected with the government were temporarily laid off without pay. One of the saddest things in my opinion is that the families of people who have died in the military are not getting the $100,000 check they usually get for losing a family member. The government are doing things to get this to stop, but they are mostly just fighting.

The House of Representatives are passing bills to try to stop the issue but the senate and the President are not in agreement. Personally I think that the House, the President and the Senate are acting like immature babies. Obama, The Leader of The House and of the Senate all need to sit down at a table and agree on something to stop this. They don’t need to cuddle and become “besties” but they need to something so that the government will open back up.

For  challenge #4  I chose the government shut down, and I did it as journalist for a newspaper.

Republicans and Democrats are pointing fingers at each other about the government shutdown. Congressman  John Boehner  says that the Democrats and President Obama refuse to negotiate on anything concerning the Affordable Care Act or better known as Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act has already been voted in as a bill, and signed by the president into a law. The Supreme Court also has determined that the Affordable Care Act is indeed constitutional. So, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has gore through all the proper things, according to The Constitution of the United States, to become a law.

Obama says that the senate and house of democrats have been willing to negotiate with republicans about the Obamacare. He welcomes ideas to enhance and make the law better. But Obama is not willing to “gut” the law, which he claims is what the republicans are demanding. He is also not willing to negotiate under such tactics as the government shut down. Here is link to his speech concerning the government shut down Obama’s speech

Congressman John Boehner and house republicans are claiming what Obama says is wrong. Boehner blames Obama and democrats for the shutdown and says they are going against the constitution. The New York Times  has some info on this topic.

CHALLENGE 4:

The US government shutdown is affecting so many things like Government run websites, National Parks, and the government! The people who lost someone in Iraq aren’t getting the $100,000 dollar check they would get for losing someone in the war. People said that employees that work for the house of representatives are still getting paid.  A lot of government people are donating their salary during this time, two people are undecided and two people are keeping their money. One of the two people that are keeping their money are keeping it to pay for his “Big house”. The US government shut down all happened because the congress didn’t want to pass ObamaCare so they decided to shut down. Obama isn’t too happy about what is going on. The congress asked Obama to compromise but he was too stubborn to change and so was the congress. Comment below who you think is going to bend first!
